That's some expensive plums!!!!!!
Stopped in at one of the stores we shop at, decided since it is so hot, I'd pick up some different types of fruit. I picked up some kiwi, plums, strawberries, peaches and a watermelon. Trying to stay away from the sweets (chocolate, my absolute downfall
). I selected about 8 plums and the cashier looked at me when she weighed them (young girl). She asked did I really want them, I said yes that's why I picked them up. Then she had that puzzled look
on her face and said the total on those are !5.00.
I said they are plums. She said yes I know. I told her I was hungry for fruit but not at that price. She called the manager over and instead of being 1.89 a pound they were ringing up 1.89 a piece (they really weren't even that big) I usually pay attention when cashiers ring up my order, but had 2 kids with me and they were asking me questions and I wasn't paying attention--no doubt about it, new rule no talking to mom when she is checking out.

Wow! Definitely very expensive ... and a great reminder to keep an eye on the items ringing up. I tend to find that 1 item out of every 20 rings in incorrectly.

YEOW!!
What really gets you is when you get home and are going over your receipt and notice an error that you didn't catch!!
Yep, I agree. And if someone is with me I will warn them that I don't talk while they are ringing me up........I watch. Around here some stores are much more NOTORIOUS for it than others. One grocery store is so bad that if I am still putting stuff on the counter I will ask them to wait or turn the 'thing/meter' so I can read it. (oh the glares I have rec'd!!)

It's nice that she caught it for you. Most cashiers would just go about their business assuming we "knew". In the end, were they really $1.89 apiece?

Make sure you thank that cashier. The one that usually waits on me often acts like were all stupid w/ a look of distain. I have caught her in so many lies. Gotta love unions. She told me one week if I take coupons from the customer that don't want them, thats stealing?? Wouldn't I just spend more in their store w/ them, helping her keep her job??

I had an incident last week, I bought 2 different sized jars of spaghetti sauce, 2 large jars and 3 small jars. Wasn't paying attention to the cashier as I have a 1 yo (who was fussing because he is a boy and hates shopping), a 4 yo, and a 6 yo with me. And you guessed it, he rang them all up as the large price. I did not see it until I got home (30 minutes from the store) and I was miffed. Being I am 30 minutes from the store it was too much of a pain to take them back, from now on I am going to have to be more careful and try to check prior to leaving the store. It was nice that the cashier caught it for you, good for her.

I bet you were glad the cashier said something! Imagine all the people who had already bought some at $1.89 a piece and didn't notice!

I like the "no talking to mom while checking out" rule, because I use a no talking to the checker rule (beyond a greeting and a thank you). That has cut down on double-scaned items and I have a chance to watch what prices are coming up, which CAN be incorrect.
A friend of ours bought some watermelon and went through the self-checker stand. Forgot his reading glasses and couldn't read things very well when he entered the produce number for the watermelon. Used a credit card for the purchase. When he got the C.C. bill, there was a charge of $300 some dollars for that watermelon. He went back to the store and luckily they could check his purchase (he had scanned his Dillon's card for the purchase) and were very gracious and credited him the correct amount. WHEW!

I have found that some stores are notorious for that, while others almost never do it!
I don't use the self checkouts for that reason. At least if someone else is checking it, there is a second set of eyes to catch a mistake!

Stores are out to make money too. Yesterday I went into a local store who had Kraft BBQ sauce for 68 cents after the 35cent coupon on bottle. I go in and someone has taken all the coupons off the bottles (you can see where they used to be on the bottles), so I went to the customer service and told them someone took all the coupons off the bottles......well she points out that there are some with coupons on a pallet against wall. I walk over there and half of those coupons are gone! So I get a couple of bottles. I remember back in high school hmm 20 years ago that this same store used to get the employees to cut out newspaper coupons so they can turn them in. I believe that is what they were doing with these, cashing them in to Kraft without selling the product and making the consumer pay full price.
