Default My daughter was Mary Poppins

My daughter became Mary poppins tonight at work. The storms we had they got a hour later. She went to get the umbrella off the patio because the winds were up to 80 miles a hour well it picked her up and the umbrella and took them through the air , she bruised her ribs, none broke,, thank goodness.

That's crazy, but a good tale (be it a bit cautionary), too. I never really thought it would have been possible. Good to know, though!

OMG, that is crazy! I'm glad she's alright, I bet it really must've been scary, though.

Nana2two, I'm glad your daughters okay. Must have frightened her quite a bit. When I was around 8-10 those clear bubble umbrellas that were shaped like a mushroom were very popular. I had one and I was walking home from the bus stop feeling really secure because the umbrella popped down over top of me and I was covered down to my hips in a see though umbrella and no wind or rain was beating on my face. The thing about those types of umbrellas is that if the wind catches underneath them a gust can lift you off the ground and carry you a few yards. Which is exactly what happened, I felt myself being lifted off the ground but I did not dare let go of the umbrella because if I lost my brand new umbrella my Mom would have killed me. I went a few yards, book bag and all, scraped my knees and gave me a fright, but that was all.

I saw those umbrellas for sale not that long ago, I wonder if they are making a comeback. Curiosity sake, what kind of umbrella did your daughter have?

OMGosh! Glad she wasn't hurt too badly.

This little episode should give her some kind of new nickname, right?

The umbrella was the ones that hooked to the patio tables at resturants. They were small ones. The timing was just right i guess. She is really sore today.

Oh I remember those umbrellas! Never did get quite the ride you and nana's daughter got though. That must've been some wild wind to lift you up with your bookbag in tow!

Glad to hear everything's ok nana!

    Theresa,

I was pretty little and bookbags(remember those??? Got to go in the way back machine for those!) were were not filled to the brim like backpacks are today. But I still traveled pretty high up before I landed abrubtly on my knees. But I swear I held tight to that umbrella and I think it cushioned my fall quite a bit, it was like a bubble around my top half, only my knees and pride got skinned.
