My daughter had it in early June. It is scary and it was especially so for her because she is a severe asthmatic but she recovered wonderfully and no one else in our home or that we knew got sick. Not even me and I was the one who did most of the caretaking . We sent my older to a friends for a few days as she has a serious heart condition that could make it very detrimental to her but to be honest I have seen her much sicker with strep throat or brochitis. Just sensible hand washing, vitamins and not eating or drinking after others will go a long way.

Just like Jamielane, my son had it in June and he too gets sick very often. I just called the Doc and they saw him with in two hours of me calling. They tested him and gave him Tramiflu (expensive stuff by the way). He was feeling much better within 24 hours. No one else got sick in our house either. It's nothing to worry about. Just practice proper hygene.

If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I just wish people would stay home from work when they're sick. So many of my co-workers are simply "too indispensible" (their belief) to take the day off or, alternatively, want to save their sick days for when they want a day off for R&R. I hate this, because I invariably catch something from someone who doesn't have the good sense to stay home when they're sick.

We all actually had Swine Flu here at the house. We got it from DS10's school and half of the school was out sick when he was out, as well. I've been on an inhaler and Codeine cough medicine for about a week now and my breathing has been a ton better. The coughing's gone and that was the biggest issue.

DS5 and DS10 both had fevers, lethargy, coughing, etc.

We all take vitamins and eat well, so even people with good diets and lots of activity get hit pretty hard with it.

My daughter that had it was also on tamiflu, I forgot to mention that. Our oldest who wasnt sick took a prevenative dose of it as well but thankfully our insurance covered all but the 10.00 copays.

I know that we are at a higher risk because of all the visitors to the islands. .... and everyone comes in contact somehow with everyone else on a small island!! I agree with LuckyBustert about people staying home when they are sick - including our students. Good hygiene is the basis for our preventative program in the classroom.

I don't know that we have any more than the 'normal flu' amt. in my community. I am doing the same thing that I do daily......try to eat right, wash my hands regularly, get a good amt. of sleep....etc.

Our government is preparing a vaccination against swine flu in the Fall for the entire population. Getting the jab is voluntary and free.

What I have often wondered, isn't 'normal' flu just as dangerous as swine flu? And aren't there more deaths from 'normal' flu than there have been from swine flu?

so we're pretty worried because my boyfriend works in a county that has quite a few cases of swine flu, and he's on immunosuppressant medication. Waiting to hear back from the doctor about whether the risks of the medication outweigh the benefits at the moment, but several days with no reply ... granted, he's probably overwhelmed by this sort of question.

Yeah thats what I've been reading/seeing. Thank you, hysteria inducing profit seeking media for inspiring the latest panic.

Greebo is totally right. There is no more risk with swine flu as there is with regular flu. Media induced panic gets old sometime doesn't it? We had 35 cases of swine flu in our county alone, and they closed all the schools. It even made the news at the other end of our state (a good 8 hour drive away). Crazy!
