Default Help! Help! Help! I Need Ideas

Dh is taking a week's vacation in August during our 25th anniversary. We already have plans for a night away from everyone. To our pleasant surprise, my mom reserved our room at the B&B as an anniversary present - (this is the very first time that we've ever been able to do this)...we've been able to save up for a few meals out, sightseeing, etc for that special time.
Now here is where my creativity ends & I have to ask the big question - What can we do for the rest of the vacation time with the kids after we get back from our "get-away"?? A few things come to mind like taking the kids to a place where they can ride go carts & play games....a day at the beach...maybe taking them all out for Chinese food (if the older ones could also pitch in for it).....I also have some arts & crafts projects for the younger 5. Any other suggestions?? Thanks for your input

Is there a local zoo or aquarium? Those are popular stops here.

There is something that me and my mom did when I was young, but it's not for everyone. Call the tourism bureau where you live and learn about the place you are from. Often you find out things you never knew and the great part was there was a 2 hour bus tour on ours that was only like $3. Just an idea!

Look for local museums and a free entrance day they are having. Any neat local historical sites you could visit?

Maybe you could have a "field day." Play games in the yard (kickball, hide and go seek, red rover, volleyball, etc.) and have a water section set up with a sprinkler. You could even buy some balloons at the dollar store and have a water balloon fight.

Good Luck and have fun on your night away.

Have you ever heard of Geo-cashing?? I think that's what it's called here....do a google search., but basically it's driving to destinations..finding a log of people who have been there..and you add your name to it.

"Geo caching" is (I think) the correct spelling, just in case you are googling. I found this site: http://www.geocaching.com/

I've not done it, but it is quickly gaining interest.

    Our vacation next week includes:
A day swimming at the pool and park (dollar day)
A minor league ball game (kids earned tickets)
Roasting hot dogs/s'mores. Sleeping in the tent in the yard. A water balloon fight (I will pre-fill bunches).
A trip to Pizza Hut buffet.
A trip to the zoo (family pass)

I'll try to make their favorite meals which we don't usually have. Lots of library movies. Playing cards and games I often don't have time for.

Bowling? Our local bowling alley will rent lanes by the hour as well as pay per game so with your big crew you bowl cheaper by the hour (if your bowling alley will do that, I would call and ask)

    Miniature golf?

Don't really have any extra suggestions except any local attractions that are affordable. We have a botanical garden where I live. We also go to the park quiet often and fish/feed the ducks and geese. Camping in the backyard sounds good. Congrats on the great anniversary getaway!

Find a local tourist spot advertising display. I had a friend who did this, in ORLANDO, and diverted his kids from the mouse, etc. for the 3 days they were going to be there with the hotel's pool and a trip to Bok Tower Gardens, much cheaper than the mouse! He said he does this all the time.

When you get there, find a rack of tourist brochures and see what you can find that sounds reasonable.

Corpus Christi State Aquarium; The Lexington; fishing and swimming at Lake Corpus Christi State Park; a day trip to Goliad State Park, the Fannin Battlefield and Presidio La Bahia; daytrip to Rockport and the Fulton Mansion and Goose Island; the Aransas Wildlife Refuge; taking in a Corpus Christi Hooks game--those are just a few things I can think of. Have fun!
