Default DS5 grew half of an inch overnight!

Wow, growth spurts sure aren't something to be underestimated!

He had me draw a pencil line on the wall to show him how tall he was last night. He's been eating like a linebacker for the last week and well, we did the pencil thing again this morning. It's seriously a 1/4 inch taller! DH thinks the pains in his legs a couple weeks back are due to growing pains and I'm thinking he's right.

My grocery budget sure does notice, too.

Oh wow! It's amazing how fast they grow isn't it? I can completely sympathize with you about the food budget.

He is probably right. My dd's feet used to grow a size overnight in summer. At night she would have a purple, pink, blue and green tennis shoes to match outfits. In the morning she would wear rain boots to Target to buy shoes. I got to the point of buying 2 sizes at once. They were only$3. a pair back then and I could resell at a G.sale for $1.50. My baby group cold never figure why I didn't ever fabric paint them and how I kept them always clean. LOL. Weren't the same shoes.

~I don't doubt that your kiddo is growing but gaining 1/4 inch overnight is actually a normal occurrence.
Everyone 'gains' height overnight. As you sleep you relax to your full stretched out size. During the day your weight and gravity make you 'lose' height.~

Wow! That's a huge jump for overnight! Quite amazing! I'm glad I don't have a boy or else I'm sure he'd eat us out of house & home.

I guess I just don't notice the normal growth thing because my oldest is 5'4" and not even 11 yet...

but we did measure Dakota earlier after lunch and it was just astounding!

    Yeah this.

Everyone is taller in the morning. When asleep at night, the spine has the chance to decompress and the pads literally swell back into normal size. The during the day, those same pads get depressed and we "shrink" as gravity takes it toll.

Now, the leg pains are most likely growing pains as well, but measure again tonight and then again in the morning, you will see that we all shrink at the end of each day.

I know the tallest boys in my high school class used this to skip military service: they would stay in bed for as long as possible on physical testing day, go to the military testing station lying on the back seat of a car. This way, they hoped to be too tall for the standard uniforms, too tall for the car seats, beds, shoes, etc. For some of them, it worked.

My 5 y/o is growing too. I looked down a couple of days ago and his toes were sticking out of "new" (spring) shoes. I took him to the store and we skipped a size when buying new ones. This poor thing is going to be all feet!

My kids have been growing by leaps and bounds lately too. My friend says her children do it every summer. Maybe all that sunshine. LOL

I do wonder do children really grow more in the summer?
