Giving up the baby clothes
Hi
I was busy today going through all the baby clothes from my now 7 year old daughter. It was very slow going. I kept stopping to remember when she wore this or that or how cute she looked in this even if it was for a boy.
I'm making an efford because I've booked a market stall to sell them and as it now seems pretty certain baby number two isn't coming, I guess it's time.
I said to myself that I was only going to keep the dress she came home from hospital in but I'm having trouble stopping with just that. Did anyone else have this problem? I spoke to a friend today and she I was being silly and they are just clothes. I suppose she's right to a degree. I think it may also be that once I really let them go then the dream of more kids is really over. Does that sound silly???

Christeen,
I absolutely get it. I recently found out that I can't have any more kids and it's been quite a blow. However, I'm trying so hard to not let it stop me from living, and I've slowly been getting rid of the baby stuff, now that Matty is 3. He's my last baby.
We don't use the strollers, so I freecycled them yesterday. My sister-in-law is having a baby in December, so we'll be giving them the crib. I pass along the baby clothes to friends who have babies and it's hard, but I know it's the right thing to do. I have lots of pictures in them in their sweet little outfits, so that's how I keep those memories alive.

I don't think it's silly. I have a hard time with it too. I kept a small tote of my favorite things from each of my two children. We have fertility issues, so probably no more kids for us...and I'm usually OK with that. My mom kept all of my baby clothes and blankets. She gave them to me when my little girl was born. Most of the clothes were ruined from being stored in the attic for 30+ years. The blankets were kept in a closet and still in great shape. My mom remembered which friends and relatives made each one. My little girl was baptized in the same gown that I wore. So, I say if you have room keep a few of your favorites. That might make it easier to get rid of the rest of it.

I had a terrible time getting rid of things to. Everything it seemed was a memory. I kept a few of the most special things and finally got rid of the rest. My girls are 13 and 10 now so it was time .

It doesn't sound silly at all. My son is 19 and I knew I couldn't have any more children but I still have about 6 boxes of his things. I just couldn't part with the most special ones. So now since he is so much older, I am saving them for my hopefully grandchild in the future!

Hi
Thanks everyone for the posts. I didn't want to think I was being strange. When I started to pack them away when she outgrew them I kept thinking I'd use them for the next one and that never happened. I know that I need to move them along. I too noticed yesterday that a few of the white things were going yellow so it is really a shame to keep them too long and not use them.
I like the idea of framing some. Might see about that for the dress. Hubbie came home from shopping by himself with it after we found out it was a girl. So definitley can't let that go!

I have kept some of Wesley's special outfits, like the one I brought him home from the hospital in, or the very first little onesie we ever bought him. We have also kept the shirt that DH bought him that says cuter than baby Jesus.
It's coming full circle I guess, because now that we are expecting Miss Maggie, my mom is starting to pull out some items that she saved for me, like my christening gown that Maggie will be baptised in.McD

I just went through all of Olivia's things over the past 3 weeks. I am having a yard sale this weekend. I told my self that I could only keep 1 tote of clothes. (mind you there were 11 total!! for a SPOILED 3 year old) I ended up with 2. I kept the things of mine, my mom gave me, her christmas dresses, easter dresses, dress she came home in (she was a surprise but I had a feeling
) blankets, favorite outfits, etc. Last weekend I had a yard sale on Friday (rained on Saturday) and made $155.00.
It is hard to let go, I know. I cried every 15 minutes, but you have to realize that you can't hold on to everything, but to keep special things, and you have your daughter to remind you of all of those times she puked in more then 5 outfits in an hour!! lolMarried to my highschool sweetheart, DD 6 DS 9 months

When i was sure i was done i kept a tub of special things then I sold all the rest to a woman opening a resale shop. The extra space was great. In time I dumped the rest too. I have albums w/ them in the outfits. i like the framing idea too.

I don't think it's silly at all. I know in my head we are done, but I can't seem to get my heart to understand. I, too, packed up a bunch of stuff this week. I still can't part with the swing, crib, or pack 'n play that will not be used anymore. I keep thinking, maybe.... So, start with the little things and do a little more when you feel up to it. I found that if I really just look at my kids like they were strangers to me and "seeing them for the first time" often over the past few days has really filled that empty space ~ if that makes any sense....
