    Default ya'll are great motivation!

Dh and I have things we want to accomplish. We have had a rough period for the last several months learning to live with a reduction in income. Well we really needed a reality check and I think we got it this weekend. We have a old farmhouse. It needs repairs. Dh is the handy man so I told him to make a rough estimate and then I would work on the budget part. So after we both did our parts we sat down and looked at the big picture. What we had been thinking is that we just couldnt afford to do much for now, but the reality of our situation was that if we tightened the reigns we could have all of the exterior work done on the house before the end of next year and still be able to take our first much needed family vacation in 12 years and have plenty of savings left over! Ummmm, Dh is typically a cant do without cable person and we are doing away with our satelite in January when the contract is up. Since we have good internet most of the shows we love we can still watch online. Yep, that was a no brainer!
Anyhoodle, thanks to ya'll for being a great motivation!

Good for you for sitting together with your hubby and seeing the big picture. That's the first most important step in my opinion.

Our contract for satelitte is up in February and we will NEVER get it again!

I am so happy for you! It really does make you feel so good when you work as a team with your mate. To me it blesses the marriage.

I had to smile when I read your post because me and my own hubby had a nice long chat tonight that involved making plans for our kitchen. It's been long overdue, but you know how it is...things just seem to pass you by when your thinking about kids and bills. But ya know, I think he felt better too. It's something we can do together as man and wife, and that makes it so much nicer even if it is a struggle! Kinda crazy, but I feel so re-newed

Glad to read your post! Ya know, you're pretty inspirational yourself!!

That is the key to success in everything in life, set down and work it out together. Sometimes it is hard to but it seems everyone feels better and it is a fresh start together. Congratulations and both of you keep up the good work.

Communication is the name of the game. My DH and I have worked together for the entire life of our marriage (36 years this Jan.) That way, if a problem in our finances arises, we both can deal with it, as well as enjoy the planning, work, and benefits if there is success.
He is a carpenter and is always bringing home "new to us materials" that we turn into remodeling materials at our own house. My entire kitchen has been redone with only the cost of the ceramic tile on the floor and the paint.
We both enjoy saving as much as we can for our own pockets and some enjoyment along the way.
This Saturday we will be taking our little stash we have been saving since last year and going on the "100 Mile Yard Sale" that takes place close to our area.
