now is a good time for that carry permit you have been putting off
I went to the class, and submitted my info to TBI, and have been carrying a concealed handgun for about 6 months now. With the economy getting worse, and crime going up, being armed wherever you go can save your life. I think of it as a spare tire, I don't drive around expecting a flat, but I am ready if it happens. I have attended a couple of tactical pistol training courses and shoot at least twice a month. I thought it was expensive at first, but having the peace of mind to know you can protect yourself and your family is priceless. I am also learning martial arts as well. The economy is only going to keep getting worse.

Nonviolent protest only works on civilized nations. If Ghandi had tried his protests in Rwanda, he would have ended up headless in a shallow ditch.

I agree learning how to protect yourself and your family is a smart idea. A lot of people I know would like to see guns banned altogether and I think they are sadly mistaken if they think laws restricting guns would reduce crime.
Personally, I think there are better ways to protect yourself than with a gun. Just because I know how to fire one, that doesn't mean I'm going to carry one around because the economy is supposedly getting worse.

CC permit envy!! You are so lucky! We've finally found a place that does the classes and how much they are and how much the permit is. All together it will cost us $175 each. I have everything but the classes and permits. I really want to get this done, but we have other bills that MUST get paid first. *sigh*
I won't be one of the ones that will be sorry that I didn't have a means to protect me and mine.

I have had a permit for over 5 yrs now and I think it comes down to ones personal choice on guns....myself, I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

It depends on what you are protecting from. If someone attacks me empty handed, I will use my martial arts training. If they attack me with a knife or gun, there is no better way to protect yourself than having a gun. I can draw my pistol and put two well aimed shots on an index card at 7 yards in 2 seconds. I will talk all day long to someone to defuse the situation, and do whatever I can to stop it getting ugly, but they come at me with a weapon, they made their choice already.

Not trying to be rude, genuinely curious. Can you name me some of the better ways to protect yourself against an armed assailant than a gun?

Banning guns only hurts the law abiding citizens, the criminals are not going to turn in their guns just because the government bans them. All that would do is put everyone in more danger. As for me, I will defend myself and my family and if that means shooting to kill some punk then so be it. I use to have my permit years ago and I've been thinking of getting it again.

The best way to protect yourself is by carrying a weapon that you are comfortable carrying. No point in carrying a weapon if you are scared to death of it or not proficient with it.

A very good point, which is why I train constantly with my gun. You need to shoot from all positions, practice jam clearing, reloads, ect. The use of a handgun merges with martial arts at point blank range.

By no means should anyone feel they HAVE to carry a gun. But the right to self-defense is absolute, and by no means should any person who respects the right of others to live be denied the right to defend their own from someone who doesn't share that respect.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I don't feel that people HAVE to have a gun, but in today's world, it is the most effective means of self defense. I do train in martial arts, but I could be Bruce Lee and it would do me no good against a crackhead with a .38 who is 10 feet away. I carry pepper spray on campus as well, as I can't bring my handgun(liberal BS) so I practice with that as well. If it is windy outside, pepper spray is a no-go. If you do get a gun, train continually and take classes when possible. I do agree that the right to self defense is absolute.
