A very productive day for me today...and getting prepared for Winter
I bought several packages of marked down meat from Samsclub yesterday..so today I broke down the packages into smaller portions and vacuumed pack them using my foodsaver..here is what I ended up with after spending 2hrs getting all the meat taken care of..
(6)-packages 2 to 2-1/4 lbs of Boneless Pork Loin (it was one long roll that I cutup myself)
(4) 2 lbs each package of Stew Beef
(1) 4 lbs of Eye of beef roast
I also bought 5lbs of marked down Hamburger and made 30 Meatballs..baked them.. waited till they cooled and foodsavered (2) 15 ct packages (that will be enough for 2 meals..one for spaghetti and meatballs one night and meatball grinders for the next night) the remaining hamburger will be tonights supper on the grill.
I'm pretty proud of getting such a good deal on the meat and how much it actually produced for my freezer..
I'm getting ready for Winter and have quite a bit of meat stockpiled at good prices..
I'm getting ahead of the game earlier than I normally have as I just filled my Fuel tank and bought 4 brand new tires for my Trailblazer..
I'm so happy right now!

You and I have been thinking along the same lines, I went and got groceries today and Hyvee had a lot more on sale than what they had in the flyer so I stocked up with winter in mind. It's never too early to start getting ready for winter, even more so when rural.

That's true Winter weather is just around the corner, it pays to be prepared. I think I'll follow your lead and defrost the upright freezer in the garage to get ready for garden goodies in the freezer. I did buy 200 gals of heating fuel at $2 a gallon today. It's a start. Thanks for the kick in the rump.

Wanted to add you got a "GREAT" deal on the heating fuel like I did! Tell me.. aren't you relieved that it wasn't over $2.50 or more a gallon? I was sure that it would be even more like $3.00 a gallon... I was jumping up for joy when my fuel guy said $1.98 a gallon..

Smart girl. If this cool summer is any indication of winter, I'm afraid we are going to see some very cold nasty days. Meat is on my list for tomorrow btw. This reminds me of the ant/grasshopper fable.

Brenda, Yes!, very glad to have gotten it now before those oil prices start rising. The oil guy said that price goes up with demand so as soon as everybody starts filling thier tanks for Winter the prices rise. Glad to have thought ahead.
My school teachers read us the story of the ant and the grasshopper every school year. LOL! I guess it had an impact.
