It can be very addictive, or not..., The biggest "time waster" of it is searching for the eggs in yours and others' profile(s) or that's my experience anyway.
Because I was getting so caught up in this or that app on facebook, I stopped doing more than one at a time. I'll do hatchlings, but leave my green patch or farmtown alone, etc. That way I answer all the requests my friends have set and I don't spend HOURS responding. On the other hand, this means I usually have >100 requests pending at any one time!
