    Default Making space!!!

We are focused on getting the house ready for sale!! Now it is a few months away.

I have decided to really go through my fabric stash. There is lots that I know I'll never use. Some the pattern is dated, or supplies that were bought for cloth diapers that I no longer make.

SO. rather than freecycle it or donate to good will. My girls and I are cutting down to manageable sizes, they will learn to use the sewing machine, and we are making small blankets to donate to the animal rescue. 3 birds one stone? Declutter, teach kids to sew and help out a worthy cause I also have a full basket of sheets they have on their wish list, not to mention dog dishes too. So we'll do a few things. We'll tackle the bins this week and really make a dent in it.

I feel bad that I didn't use the fabrics, but these poor rescue pets will totally appreciate a warm blanket of their own, even if the seams are crooked. They'll be made with love by my daughters who are true animal lovers.

What a great idea! Some very creative thinking on your part and teaching the kids to share too.

Anything to help animals I am for......

Good luck with the house sale too.

That's a great idea. Your girls are learning more than sewing their learning how to be kind to those in need. 2 great lessons, good Mom!

    OH, I had another thought!!!!

We have another charity here in the winter, blankets for the homeless. Once the girls get more adept at sewing for the animal rescue, and if they enjoy sewing, I was thinking I might teach them some simple patchwork quilting. This would use up the mish mash of fabric ends. And we could make some throw sized ones together for that as well.

What a great idea. Homeless shelters always have need for blankets.

I know, but it's a much bigger project to do, so we'll see how the girlies do for the pooches first. The point is moving out the fabric, not eat up all my time..lol

With this, they will learn to cut with rotary cutter, measure, sew with both conventional sewing machine and with a serger. And maybe make some rice heating pads in funky shapes for their friends once they master the straight line.

That's awesome, I wish my Mom had taught me to sew.

I wish mine had too! LOL. I learned as an adult. I have learned to design and draft. But what I really wish I knew how to do would be alterations.

Yeah, I can see why. I take our clothing to a very sweet older lady and she does not charge an arm and a leg, but it sure adds up. It would be nice to be able to do it myself.
