Question Would this make you nervous?.....

Ok maybe I'm a little paranoid when it comes to my kids but this is really bothering me.

Dd(17) is working at the local elementary/middle school with the summer school program. They run buses and pick the kids up and take them home in the evening. Her bus driver this summer is someone who is normally a sub driver. He's driven ds's bus a few times this year and he says he is REALLY weird.

Some times dd is the only one on the bus for the entire run and sometimes for most of the run and then other kids get on near the end. We've had alot of trouble with him in the mornings, never knowing what time he's going to run for sure. Sometimes he doesn't make the full run so each evening he tells dd what time he will run the next morning. He even ran early one morning and we missed the bus.

This morning he called here about 7:15 and told dd it would be a little after 8 before he ran. He called because dd didn't work yesterday so he couldn't tell her then. We live on a side street and have to take her out to the main road to meet the bus. As we are sitting there waiting a vehicle pulls in in front of us. It's the bus driver in his PRIVATE VEHICLE. He comes to my window and tells me the bus wouldn't start and he will just take dd in his private car on to work. Ummmmmm so not happening! I told him I had to go to town anyway(which I didn't) and I would take her. So he tells us he's going to finish the run in his car and for us to tell her boss that he will be a little late.

So I take her to work and drop her off and stop in at the Dollar store. I was in town MAYBE 15 minutes and on the way home who do I meet? The bus driver................IN THE BUS!

This is just freaking me out. I am a very protective mom and my mind is just going crazy. Was he trying to get my dd in his car and do something to her/kidnap her? IF he made the full run in his car he wouldn't have had time to get back to the bus and then meet me too. UGH! Summer school is only one more week and I think we will be driving her from her now on!

Should I call and report it? I've had a couple of people that I work with tell me he is a super nice guy. Am I jumping to conclussions and just being nuts?

I'd report it and find out if he said anything to the bus company about the bus not starting. Maybe.....just maybe.....they sent someone to fix it while he was out in his car for pick-ups. I'd be suspicious too, but you need to be careful how you approach the situation. You don't want the tables turned on you and face some sort of defamitation of character suit.
Drive dd the rest of the week, but get to the bottom of the matter with the bus company.

I'd definitely call the supervisor and see what was going on, whether or not there was a valid reason for what happened. I wouldn't call it reporting, so much as asking a reasonable question.

Btw, I don't find this to be a reason to call yourself overprotective. Yes, it absolutely would make me nervous.

I doubt his personal car is covered under the bus insurance policy. If nothing else this could be grounds for dismissal. You definitely should report this rather unprofessional behavior to his employer
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

He told me that there was no one at the bus garage that early to call so he'd have to tell them when he got the kids to school. Ds says he thinks he parks it at his house which is about 10 miles from me the OTHER way.

This is creepy. Listen to your intuition and call and discuss this with the school district. You don't have to make accusations, just ask them to clarify the situation.

I find it strange that he had no way of contacting anyone about his bus not running. Living in the country our bus drivers also parked their busses at home, but if one wasn't running they went to the bus garage and got another. Yes the kids were late to school, but the driver would notify the school about the problem and the kids were excused from being tardy.

    I second this.
Trust your feelings on this one.

btw, is it normal for busdrivers to have the phonenumbers of the schoolchildren they drive to school?

Supervisor of the bus garage and the superintendent of schools please. Your not personal friends
His car is not certified for anything
What do you know about this man
Why does he have your home number but not his supervisors home phone number
    That cannot be school policy
    How old is DD?
-At the very least this i a liability issue for the school and he used bad judgement
-At the very most check the Watchdog.com abuser site. Why would he put himself in this position?

My DD18-says she would have reported him herself and wants to know why your DD didn't?? She says some creepy people work as substitute drivers because regular drivers have jobs in the summer and they can't get anyone else. (one teen to another)

Call the school and report it immediately! There is something strange about this guy. The busdrivers should not have the home phone numbers of the children he is picking up. They have radios in the bus that are a direct link to the schools so they can contact the school if there is a problem who in turn calls the parents of the children.

REPORT IT! Good luck and keep us informed.

Sounds creepy to me...I'd definitely call it in, just to be on the safe side. With our kids, following your intuition is always the way to go.

My baby sister drives a school bus, she said report this. They do not pick up any child in their personal vehicle. You are right to be concerned. I'd let them know everthing you told us. There is no way I'd let my daughter back on that bus either. Let us know what happens.
