Thread: Men and Instructions

My kenmore washer broke a couple weeks ago. I did some searching online and I'm 95% sure I know what's wrong with it I emailed my husband and said that I knew what was wrong and had ordered the part, but I was going to wait till he got home to take care of it. He emails back, "I'll get to work on the washer first chance I get."
How am I going to break it to him that I meant for him to watch the kids while I fix it? I'm not letting him any where near my washer.
In other words, yes I have one like that too.

I love this thread, but I'm not going here in detail. Let's say, we end up with 'extra' parts. The stuff works, but there are extra parts.
Projects in Progress: quilt, bathroom rugs, knitting dishcloths
Future Projects: finish baby doll (clothes & hair) for DGD, rag rug, table napkins
New Challenge for Myself: crochet items for the homeless

I'm with you, fixer. I always have extra screws and such left. I think they give you multiples of the little things, because they know you are going to drop at least one: down a tubular frame, on the ground where it will roll under a large immovable appliance, somewhere in your clothing where you won't discover it until it goes in the washer and manages to break THAT.

Ah, yes, it's that male-not-listening thing. This reminds me of many incidents, but mostly our utility room cabinets. DH and I have been building a house for almost 9 years, trying to do things as inexpensively as possible. I could write a book . .. . . . . . So, when it came time for some wall cabinets in the utility room, we bought three unpainted off-the-shelf cabinets at Home Depot. I painstakingly primed and painted these three cabinets with oil-based paint. To save time, I did not paint the sides of the middle cabinet, the right side of the left cabinet, the left side of the right cabinet, or the tops of the cabinets, only the bottoms, because this would all be hidden as they were installed. I explained this to DH, in addition to the fact that the doors should not be reinstalled until I had painted the hinges to match the knobs I had purchased. I came home to find two cabinets hung upside down, one in the wrong position, and all doors installed with hinges unpainted. No, he didn't fix it. He did remove the doors so I could remove the hinges and paint them.

Fixer is the only man who reads and follows instructions I think!
Other men...just don't.

Hahaha! My dh even throws away the instructions before he has started on assembling/installing, then he gets stuck. If it's anything computerrelated, I usually don't have a clue and don't want to have a clue. He has to make many phonecalls to computersavvy friends to fix the problem, usually involving a complete reformatting of our computer. Thank heavens I managed to persuade him to put all the pictures on a cd on a regular basis.
For non-virtual problems, dh also lacks 3D insight. We're well-matched, because I do have good 3D imagination and can usually instruct him how to fix the problem.

My hubby reads the instructions, when putting things together.
Then if something goes wrong, he asks me for help.
Usually I can figure it out on my own....but sometimes I have to dig out the instructions that are now a waded up ball in the waste basket, after his patience wore out.
Motto in this house is....
*if all else fails, dig out the instructions out of the wastebasket ! *--------My signature--------

Put the frog in pot, turn up the heat real slow, and the frog doesn't hop out. And by the time he realizes, he should , it's too late... think about it.

I have seen hubby look at the instructions. And then he criticizes them.

LOL!!! I can just imagine me saying 'If the instructions are so stupid, give them to me. Let me watch you put it together via ESP."
Then, you can watch for me on divorce court.

My hubby does instructions much better than he does directions. He won't stop and ask directions and he goes into a tizzy when he thinks he's lost. Solution: GPS. Best $300 we ever spent!

I'm

My dh reads instructions because he's a technical writer, and likes to think he can do it better.
