addicks barker texas near me is closing. not surprised. it is over 100 years old, teeny tiny like a shack, and they built a new one nearby.
    11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
    credit card debt 7500
    mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
    then live on the rest!

i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

~Only 3 closing in CJ and SJ, metro areas. It may be an initial inconvenience for people but in general I think the closings are a step in the right direction.~

There are about 7 they want to close in our area. About 5 of them make sense to close, but there a small one near me that I would dearly miss if it would close. They are small...3 checkouts, but they have terrific customer service. I would be a shame to lose them. The other one that I find curious is on the LSU Campus. Many of the international student don't drive and they next closest post office is far out of walking distance. Most dorm-dwellers buy PO boxes to communicate with parents. I'm not sure what those students would do without their PO.

I lived in a small town in WA a few years ago that did that. I hated it. Plus you had to pay for the PO Box and often had to wait for one to become available. Very inconvenient.

There is one in my area that could close.

The one nearest me that my mail comes out of is on the list, but I doubt it would be missed very much. The building is old and small, and you can lose your car in the holes in the parking lot. All I have ever done there is a few times drop something in the outside drive by box after work since I go right past it. I always use the newer one out the direction of most of my shopping when I occasionally have to go to one.

I don't blame them for closing a lot of these stations, and it may be that many of the employees can be moved around to other locations. Closing offices doesn't mean there will be less mail to handle. At least I hope that may be true for the employees.

I hope those postal workers can get transfered to other post offices or at least get work from other delivery services. So sad to see jobs lost.

Yeah, that's where I am. They want to close the one in Lemay, one in Affton and on the other side of Gravois. Sheesh. If they close these three, I'll have drive further out in the county.:gaah: But in all honesty, I really don't visit there often anyway since I also do my bill paying online and buy stamps at the grocery store.

There are 49 in Ohio! Wow! What a blow to the economy! All of those jobs.... We will have to get computer-based gambling in Ohio just to make up for some (more) lost jobs {8-[
