I am trying decide if I would care if ours closed. Now I don't mean postal delivery that would be horrible.
-I get very few stamps and buy them at the G. store
-Never send packages
-Don't collect stamps anymore
-When I did I called the stamps number or bought off the internet
-Get tax forms at the library
-don't even use their scale
-dont have a p.o. box

So thankful there are very few small towns on the list!!!
Closing the Post Office is often the last straw in a small town's demise.
We live in a town of around 500, and our PO does not deliver mail, you go to the PO every day and fetch your mail. If you are unwilling to do this, they actually change your address to a neighboring town!!!

They closed a lot in this area several years ago. We used to have 4 within a few miles, now there are two. They took away the automated kiosk I used to use to mail packages after hours, millions of dollars wasted on that program, no doubt. Now you have to wait in line forever, because the stamp machine is broken, too. And they wonder why people aren't using the PO much any more.

I remember in 4th grade a guest speaker coming in to our classroom and talking about jobs of the future (computer technicians, that sort of thing). He asked us to guess what job wouldn't exist by 2025, and no one could guess.
He said "mail carrier" - we were completely confused, how was that even possible? I like the ritual of going to our small local post office, but in order to get bills paid on time and to save money on stamps, I pay my bills on line and only mail personal correspondence.

I live in a large city and they are only closing four in the entire city. I have said for years they needed to close some down. There are SEVEN post offices within 5 miles of my house and 25 post offices within 10 miles. They are closing one of them. It is the one they just completed extensive renovations on!
I have an online business and I ship packages every day. The USPS has pretty much priced themselves out of the package delivery business over the last couple of years. I ship all orders up to 3 lbs by USPS 1st Class (up to 13 oz) and Priority (over 13 oz. and up to 3 lbs). Anything over 3 lbs goes by FedEx Ground. It has the same estimated delivery time, includes insurance up to $100, and has true online tracking.Mary

Odd, but most of NJ is spared except up near NY. I have 3 post offices within 5 miles of my home and we certainly could make do with one. One of them is a little rinky dink one that has shorter hours than other post offices and I have frequently had mail problems with them. I live in a pretty rural area (I think) to have that many. There are several more about 15 miles from here. Seems like there is no rhyme or reason. My Dad is a postal carrier in FL and I hope his job is safe as I see a lot of PO in FL are closing up.

Wow how awful!
I didn't catch if they said how many jobs that would be. I know there were several for the St Louis area.

I was surprised by the list. I thought it would be mostly the small town ones. I did see several in my state, but I use the ones closest to my home & didn't see those listed. I actually like my local post office, but don't use it as much as I use to. Its mostly due to trying to cut back on extras (no ebay or mail order, mailing fewer packages & letters).
