Chapped lips suggestion
I signed up for the Old Farmers Almanac newsletter and received one today. In it was suggestions for lemon uses and then I read this...
• Have chapped lips? Massage your mouth with a dab of earwax—preferably your own.
Wow! Is it just me, or is this very very nasty?
Either way it gave me a good laugh!Last edited by semo_mom; 08-06-2009 at 11:17 AM.

It's your own natural body oil. Technically there is nothing wrong with it and it is probably perfect for moisturizing your own skin. It does sound a bit bizarre though.

I once read the "helpful hint" where you run your finger over the side of your nose or forehead and then transfer the oil from your head or nose (now on your finger) to your lips. Me, I occasionally use coconut oil - the same stuff I use for cooking/baking - which is often an ingredient in commercial or homemade lip balm products.
I agree earwax would taste pretty bad....

~Grainlady, I read that too years ago and it's a tip I've had occasion to use.
I have a sensory thing with chapstick and lipgloss; I'm always slathering it on. Well I've been caught out in cold and windy weather without my trusty chapstick before and the oil trick has saved me from freaking out and getting chapped lips.
I guess it's good to know the earwax tip but I hope I never have to use it!~~Constance

That's just atrocious. I wouldn't want to be kissing someone who had been rubbing their lips with their own earwax. I'll stick to my SoftLips chapstick.

Okay, bran me strange, I just had to try it.
Yes it does taste yucky
but boy are my lips smooth.
I wonder if the ear wax flavor of every flavor beans (Harry potter) tastes like that.
Raspberry lemonade blisticks much preferred but it is a handy tip to know. Never know when it will come in handy.

Blech! When the kids get horrible chapped lips, I use Lansinoh lanolin--you buy it in the baby aisle for breastfeeding, but it works wonders on the lips/hands, too. Dh would kill me for telling you, but he gets horribly chapped hands in winter (to the point where they bleed) and he has issues with lotion(he says it's too greasy) . . . but not the breast balm. *snort*

Somehow, I don't thing the idea will catch on well; so far none of the manufacturers are producing Ear Wax Lip Balm.
But the oil on the face would be good for dry lips, in an emergency. We're always trying to get rid of it, or disguise it with face powder, and it's ideal for the skin (except in excess).
