Scary News At The End Of Our Stay-cation
Our family had been enjoying the last few days of our stay-cation when dh received a phone call from a coworker...the boss for their region showed up unexpectedly & told his coworker to meet him at his strage unit (coworker 's area is about 150 miles south of us). Coworker arrives and he is informed -without warning- that the company is "restructuring" and they no longer need 2 people to work in the area. I feel so horrible for him - he didn't do anything wrong & yet they eliminated his job at the drop of a hat. Watching the economy for the past year, I was always afraid that this would happen to dh...I am relieved to know that dh's coworker has some income to fall back on.His wife works,he has a side business.
Now dh will be handling the entire territory by himself. I can't help to wonder if or when this will happen to us - this has me spooked.

Cut back and keep putting money away, paying down debt. Get any medical procedures or dr's. visits taken care of. Frustrating, but thats what i've been doing. No one is completely free and clear in this economy.

I don't blame you for being spooked. In this economy, you just never know. All you can do is prepare like it MIGHT happen....and then hope for the best. If you are concentrating on preparing you will not worry...as much.....about it. Good luck and keep us posted........

Wow, talk about insensitive!

Optimistically, if your DH is handling a large area by himself, one would tend to think that the company wouldn't let him go. They'd just have to replace him with someone else.DH aka Mad Hen

I would be really mad to have to make a 300 mile round trip just to find out I was fired. Especially since he called him to tell him to come. Why not just tell him on the phone? I hope there was more to the meeting than that!

Dh & his coworker served the same region, only the coworker is about 150 miles south from us (he serves the lower half of the region, dh serves the upper part). they each had company storage units to house the parts that they had to order to repair equipment. The boss went to the other coworker's storage unit, inventoried parts & had them shipped elsewhere, closed the storage unit, took the coworker's company laptop,& cell phone & will send someone to pick up the company van & drive it back to Houston. No other explaination was given - just that the company was restructuring....They had done this earlier this year and alot of people lost their jobs in California, some group leaders' jobs were wiped out when they merged some regions.

After going through unemployment 3 yrs ago, we have been trying to stockpile as much as we can...sometimes I feel like a squirrel
The thing that I worry about the most is the house - I wish that we were able to pay it off & feel more secure about a roof over our heads. If worse comes to worse, we'll do as we have always done in the past - since everyone still lives at home,we'll pool all of our resources together and pray hard -its about all anyone can do.

Sending hugs to you. That would be a scary thing to hear. As Madhen posted, hopefully your DH's job will be more secure now that he's the only one handling the territory.

Insensitive
How rude and insensitive not to give any time to prepare, wonder how they would feel if an employee left with no notice. Mad-Hen is right...I would think you husband should be safe as he is covering the whole territory. Hope the added territory is not too much for him. Keep us posted.
