Ewwww!!!
~Dh was just out mowing the front yard when he smelled something dead. Well he's looking around on the ground for a dead bird or squirrel or chipmunk but there's nothing on the ground. So he looks up. Stuck in the branches of our cedar tree is a dead vulture! Those things are huge close up!
We've had so many thunderstorms lately that we were wondering if it was sitting on the power line and maybe got hit by lightning?
Poor dh. He was so grossed out by disposing of it. One of those days though where I'm very thankful he's around to do these things so I don't have too!~~Constance

Yup, that is GROSS!!!! I tried to save some baby squirrels the other day. One was dead, another died later on, and the last one died at the wildlife reserve. They were about two weeks old. It looked as if the feel from their nest. Not sure if it was because of the winds. But it was pretty sad. Luckily I had some platex gloves to pick them up with.

Nuisance - you're right that is disgusting. did you happen to get a picture? Don't know that I've ever seen a vulture except in cartoons and movies. Glad your DH was there to take care of it.

Ewww is right!!!
Times like that are when I am so happy I have DH. Our dog killed a rabbit in the backyard a few weeks ago. The dog brought it up to the backdoor for us ad it was disgusting. Guess he wanted to give us a gift. DH had to bag it up and dispose of it. Very very gross.DD (19)

A vulture is heinous looking enough . . . I can't imagine what it looked (and smelled *gag*) like dead. Maui, you are missing out not to have seen one before. We see them all the time eating carrion on the side of the road. They are scary-looking beasts.

YUK! They are uglier than wild turkeys, IMO.
Glad I only have crows.........which aren't my favorite either. They are a dirty bird and make extra work if you have bird baths.

We get the HUGE turkey vultures out here. They may not look like much when they are sitting on the road, chowing down on dead skunk, but when they are in flight, they are pretty majestic. They will sometimes ride the currents right past my windows, and float within a few feet of the house. I swear, their wingspan has to be three feet or so!!
I actually like crows.
Now, ff, don't you think it is unfair of you to say they are dirty, then to get mad at them for using your bird bath?

No, I did not get pictures of the dead buzzard. I figured posting about the grossness here on FV was weird enough!
I really didn't think anyone would be interested in seeing 30 lbs of rotting bird.....~
~WOW that posted huge!~Last edited by nuisance26; 08-15-2009 at 05:42 PM.

Let me tell you, they are the ugliest looking birds around. Nasty, disgusting, gross. We had a bunch of them circling around here yesterday. Some animal must've died nearby. Years ago, my uncle ran into one as it was sitting in the middle of the road, eating roadkill. The dang thing shattered his windshield. We call them turkey buzzards, around here.
