Fall is my favorite season and I miss it so much!!! I grew up in the midwest but now living on the west coast...we don't get fall here, I can find it if we go to the local mountains!! We are going apple picking next weekend so I might see some leaves turning!!!

I'm trying not to turn green with envy here

This weekend it has been into the 60's F. at night and low 80's F. during the day, which is very cool for August here in the SE US.

<== Yes I have noticed also here in the northeast the skies are changing and the leaves are already browning. Notice I've changed my avatar already. Autumn (one of my favorite seasons) seems to be coming earlier and earlier.

I will now start preparing for winter. Bringing out blankets, comforters, sweaters and warmer clothing.

Got my list ready to replenish the pantry, cabinets and freezers. It will be that time again soon.

Come september i will move all the summer clothing and bring out the winter items like jumpers wollens - when i moved i put them all away in a box to make myself some room and now all i have to do is swap them over.

I need to make a start on getting the stockpile up for winter as i dont want to go out of the house much other than to go work. When i can i will be making more crumbles to add to the freezer - i am hoping i can pick up a freezer on freecycle so i have more room to put baked goods in - i only havea small one at the moment.

Can't believe its September already next week.

what are the best fall / winter foods other than soups?

i want to have different options to try rather than just filling up on soup.

I'm not quite ready to put up the fall decor yet - but I am feeling fallish. The weather here in Chicago definitely is cool and fall-like - lots of rain which usually doesn't start until late September, September plants blooming early. Saw a few migrating birds last weekend. I love fall - it's so exciting. It really invigorates me - makes me feel like cleaning and cooking. Can't wait for tomorrow to get up and listen to NPR and cook.

It will be awhile before mine turn as it was almost 100 degrees here today. I put three of them in last year so this year should get more color.......last year wasn't much!

But even with that you can feel fall in the air..........the heat doesn't stick around as long, comes sooner in the day, the mornings are cooler, the days are getting LOTS shorter.

The leaves on the trees here in northeast Texas have that late summer, really tired look, some with a yellowish-tan cast. The sassafras, which is the first to turn, has a very few spots of color. We don't get real color here until November, and almost never anything to rival the northern areas. of the country. It'll be the middle of October before we get the really energizing brisk fall weather. I am SO looking forward to that.
