Ok Guys, I Need Your Help......

I would like opinions please -
I signed up to do a local church consignment sale (kids clothing)
I've had great experiences with this specific sale (twice a year) both as a seller and a shopper - (that's just a side note)
This sale is on a Friday & Saturday - Saturday has the option to the seller to discount our prices to half price -
Sellers make 70% (30% goes to the church and I'll receive a tax receipt)
I have boys clothing and books, books, and more books (children's - pre teen)
Sooooo my question is this:
If I've priced all of my items $1.00 - $3.00 (my theory is that if the prices are low, I won't have much left)
Should I do half price on Saturday??
Or are the prices low enough that people would be willing to buy w/out the half price option??
I have the option to make any specific item 1/2 off, it's not all or nothing, so I could make just the $3 items 1/2 off, or just the books - but the books are all priced at $1.
Opinions please.......

I think that your prices are very low already; but if on Saturday alot of people are marking theirs down 1/2 price and its obvious that you aren't people will probably ask you to reduce them even though they are very low to start. Maybe you should charge a little more on Friday and then 1/2 price them on Sat.
PS Just would like to add LOVE LOVE LOVE Don't breed while shelter pets die.

I agree with Craftypam that your prices are already pretty low. I would just see how you're doing on Sunday and mark your items lower if you seem to have quite a bit left.
Good luck!~ Michelle

I agree too! Your prices are low but if you have lots of stuff left and want to have it all go, then lower your prices!
Good Luck!!

I agree with the other posters.........with one side note.......and this depends on your area. Maybe judge by what the prices at your garage sales are.....and raise it a bit due to the church fees.
I would not pay $1 for a book........but that is my area. They don't sell for $1 at garage sales here. My library sells them for 25 cents .. with two book shelves of them. They also have two major book sales each year.....same price........25 cent paperbacks......50 cent hardbacks. At many garage sales, if they are an avid reader and have GOBS of adult books they will sell them for 10 cents.....seldom more than 50 cents. If they are kids books.......and in good shape.....you could probably get more.

i also do a sale with this option and i just think about my motivation is it more to make $ or to declutter? if its to declutter discount and get that stuff outta there if its to make $ then maybe don't discount but consider what you are going to do with the stuff that doesn't sell, is there an opportunity to sell it elsewhere or will it just take up space? jmo

I used to participate in one of these type sales, but we could choose to not discount individual items. I'd suggest, that if it's "all or nothing" you withold anything you aren't willing to discount. Try to sell it on Ebay or something... That's what I usually do.
Or if you choose NOT to discount it all, donate left over books to the library, or goodwill, for a tax credit.

I had a garage sale this weekend. We did good since we had a bunch of junk and were very surprised to make over $100 each lol. We sold Saturday only.
But I get off subject.......I sold full price for 3/4 of the day, then lowered them so I could get it sold and only had 2 boxes to drop at goodwill.

thanks guys, I really appreciate all the opinions - I guess I should have mentioned that we (the sellers) aren't present (unless I'm there shopping)
so there is no way to decide to lower prices - the sticker price is the sticker price, I either check the box to discount 1/2 off on the 2nd day, or I don't.
I'm really thinking that geck is right - I really don't want to bring anything home - and I suppose 35 cents is more than they make sitting in the closet - :shrug:Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die
