Question do you like pop in visits?

Just curious who here likes pop in visitors. I grew up in a downtown small city and people were always popping in to visit. relatives, friends, etc. My family loved it and it was almost like getting a gift for no reason. My IL hate pop in visitors because it messes up their 'routines'.

Most of my friends don't like them and since my DH aunt died who lived 20 minutes away (she loved popping in on me...and I loved seeing her!) we never get pop ins anymore.

    Just curious.

My family always just pops in and I'm fine with that and even tell my friends just stop buy. But my husband finds it extremely rude and so does his family his mother is learning you do not have to call first we would love to visit. But his dad and step mom have to make appointments to visit us or us visit them.

If we didn't like pop in visitors..we would have to move! Seriously ..no one and I mean NO ONE calls first. I don't mind most days and if we don't want visitors we lock the doors, turn off the lights (if it is in the evening) and just don't answer the door. We call it 'hiding out' and have to do it at least once or twice in a two week period.

On a side note....I read a woman's blog daily and what they do is 'close the gate' which I think is a fabulous idea. They have a gate across their driveway and walkway and close and lock it if they don't want visitors. Otherwise it is left open for people to 'pop in'.

For the most part I don't like pop in visitors and find it very rude. I think the maddest I ever got was when DH's mom surprised us with a visit (she lives 6 hours away and just showed up at our door one day to stay for a couple nights - of course DH is not going to turn her away). Now my neighbor down the street or a friend from church coming for a few moments I can tolerate -- but those 3 day visits w/o prep time are just uncalled for.

I'm not an incredibly social person by nature. I don't even like appointed visits.

So, I'd have to say no.

I would be mad if someone showed up from a day away and expected to stay days. I am just refering to the "I was driving past your street and thought I'd stop and say hi for a minute"!

I don't like pop in visitors. For the most part I don't even like people in my home. It's my one safe place in this world. Mainly reserved for me and fur covered beings.

I like planned visits. That being said, they can be "planned" an hour ahead of time for most people. Now, if it's my inlaws I need a day because I feel I have to mentally prepare for them, lol.

I prefer planned visits but pop in visits aren't so bad. I only have a couple of friends who do "stop by" here and there, it doesn't happen often!!

It really depends on who is doing the popping in!

Anyone who knows us well doesn't just pop in because of our work schedules. We don't mind it if they do but they first have to catch us at home. We also live far enough away that it seems to be a convenience for most of our friends to drive out and pop in. Man I love living in the country.
