Got room for one more?
My name is Paula. I've been married for 19 years, have three sons ages 18, 15 and nine. We live in North Texas but are relocating to the Albany, NY area next week for my husband's new job. My husband was laid off on March 16th so we made it through a six month lay off. My stock pile is gone (which is good- less to move), our savings is gone, we're behind on every credit card we have ($10,000 in debt), we're a month behind on vehicle payments but our lien holders have been very understanding about that and have worked with us. Oh and we owe the IRS $1,400. that must be paid by 11/27/09...and the IRS has been very understanding and willing to work with us.
I'm here to learn everything I can about living frugally and doing it in a cold climate! My goals are to get all our debt paid off once and for all and to sock money away. I figure the only way to prevent this from happening again is to prepare as if it will. I look forward to learning a lot from the members of this site.

If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
