He has not been well for the past week or so. We took him to the vet yesterday and they did a blood panel. As I waited all day for them to call with the results, of course they called while I was out with the kids at karate.
The message was 'It's complicated' and will take time to explain.....to me that says it's not good, and if it's not fatal, I expect it to be expensive.
I will have to wait until tomorrow for him to call back.
I'm devastated that my poor dog is ill....and I'm also upset that my emergency fund is now with the vet. I worked so hard to start working on my EF and it's so disheartening to have to use it so quickly.
Meh....
I'll post an update here tomorrow once I speak with the vet.

I've lost my EF a couple of times, but the way I look at it is to be grateful it was there to be used!! After my last episode with my goat, I started a separate vet EF, so I wouldn't feel like I was "robbing" my EF, and also so I would have a large but finite amount of money to use on any animal emergency. (I came SO close to just hauling my little goat off to UC Davis and charging the $3,500 they wanted to fix him. I didn't do it, but I cried and hated myself for not doing it, too. If I had $4,000 in a "vet" fund, I would have spent it without a second thought.)
I hope your pup is okay, and it is just a weird blood panel or an easily treatable condition. "Complicated" is never great, but it doesn't necessarily have to be horrible, either. Usually it means something treatable, but not necessarily curable.
I'll keep good thoughts for you and your fuzzy boy. I had a HORRIBLE month in August, and I think I used up ALL my bad karma, so I'll happily send some of this month's surplus of good karma your way!!

Hugs to you and your furry! Both kitties here on meds and special food. Boy, does it all add up. Hoping you're not in for much more expense, but I agree with madhen, be happy and proud that you had that EF moola for your pup.

Thanks, you guys. It's certainly true that, at the very least, I DID have a small EF to take from....at least for this initial consult. It could have been that I had nothing!
Thanks for helping me see a brighter side.

Fingers crossed for you and your pup. I'm know I'm horrible, I got INTO credit card debt paying over $5K to get my Pom surgery for a ruptured gall bladder a few years back. I'm out of CC debt now (it all snowballed the wrong direction after that incidient) but honestly, I'd like put it on a card again if there was a chance to save him.

Maybe "complicated and hard to explain" was
just because he was leaving you a phone
message and wasn't able to talk to you. Too
hard to try to explain in a left message, so
that you might understand.
Hoping the vet will be able to treat whatever
was/is found, and your baby will be ok.......
