We renewed our wedding vows!!! Long post.
Dh and I renewed our wedding vows today! We have been married 17 years. I realize it's not the customary time to renew, but we have needed to do this for awhile.
I was married for a short time in college. I then put him through chef school, he then had an affair he didn't want to give up. We were both Catholic and married in the Church. We divorced because he refused to come back , get counseling and make it work. Also, he was an alcoholic and abuser to me.
So then I met Dh and we married in a Christian church. A few years later my priest helped me get the first marriage annulled. The last step was getting our marriage blessed in the Church. We never made time (you know how busy life can get and 2 kids) .....
In the meantime I was banned from taking communion. I guess it really didn't hit me hard until the last year or so. I needed to go back to Church and be a part of communion. My heart hurt, I felt separated from God. I even tried other churches and denominations. I guess I finally realized that I needed to go back to my roots and really try to be a part of the church again.
I hadn't planned on going today. I just happened to email my priest and just as I hit "send", he was looking at his email and mine popped up. He called me immediately and we set it up.
So......Dh and I were home alone, kids in school. We went to the church in our humble jeans and tee shirts and renewed our vows.
Wow!!!!! It was so romantic. It was so meaningful. And we are really glad we did this. DH is not Catholic and it means alot to me that he did this.
P.S. When I called my Mom to tell her, she reminded me that today is the anniversary of my Dad's passing. It's like he was blessing us from heaven.Last edited by NewLeaf; 09-08-2009 at 05:17 PM. Reason: warning - long post
