Default That is it!! I gave up doing low carb!!!

I cant do it any more. I have been on and off Low carb all my life . to tell you the truth It dont work for me. I love food . My hole life has been around food . making things for parties and cooking for the kids. I love to cook but when I am on low carb I cant. so I made up my mind I am not doing Low carb any more. I am just going to live my life and if that means being over weight then so be it.And the cost of low carb cooking when you have a family is just to hard to do. I have to have special things for me that gets to be to much money.

Oh, I can relate. I love bread, potatoes, cakes, crackers, etc. I've been on low carb and the weight really fell off, but it is very difficult to stick to. I can't say I won't consider doing it again because I have difficulty losing weight and need to desperately.

Sorry you did not get the results you wanted. My husband has been on a LC plan for years and we don't have a lot of problems with the food. We just skip the bread, rice, etc and eat everything else.

A word of caution.... When you've been on a low-carb program for a prolonged period of time and you go back to consuming high-glycemic carbs, you will find they effect your blood glucose levels more than ever. So consider low-glycemic foods, or additions of foods that will lower the glycemic impact of high-glycemic foods (fat, fiber, and protein along with high-glycemic foods), or you could be looking at blood glucose conditions including Syndrome X, Insulin Resistance, or even Type II Diabetes. This has happened to a friend of mine.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Your thyroid regulates your metabolism. If it's not functioning correctly, you could have metabolic resistance to weight loss due to a low thyroid.

Here are some things that may help:

    1. Cinnamon has been shown to lower blood glucose levels. Add cinnamon when possible, to applesauce, on high-glycemic toast, in your morning oatmeal....

    2. Add some Hi-Maize Resistant Starch to high-glycemic foods. I add this to all our baked goods, smoothies, pudding.....
    http://www.kingarthurflour.com/shop/...al-fiber-12-oz

    3. Try making your baked goods with coconut flour. Low-carb, high protein, and wonderful!
    http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/or...onut_flour.htm

    4. When you want that potato, choose those small new potatoes, rather than a large mature potato. There is less starch developed in new potatoes.

    5. Under-cook pasta by a minute or two to lower the glycemic impact.

    6. Focus on whole foods, they typically are low-glycemic. So choose the apple, rather than more processed apple foods like applesauce or apple juice. Stay away from highly-processed foods.

About "I can't"... I was supposed to give a speech in German Class when I was in high school, and I struggled and gave up saying "I can't". The German teacher was also the football coach and I had to do 25 push-ups (behind his desk since we only wore dresses back then) in front of the class. That was a valuable lesson, because I got up and red-faced, gave the speech. He said, "I knew you could!!!" That was a tough lesson to learn, but it's been a valuable lesson when I thought, "I can't".

The good-for-you foods are also those that are good for your family. The same with bad-for-you foods. We keep to the lower half of the glycemic index of foods, and have for many years because of so much diabetes in hubby's family, and we've done it on a budget, and nobody realizes they've eaten any other way....

    Be encouraged.....

The diet that works for me is salads and lean meats with one carb dish per meal.

Easy. I've been a size 12/14 for the last 16 years and only vary by about 10 pounds ever.

Just want to say it's basic physics...

Take in less calories that you'll body will burn=weight loss
Take in more than you'll body will use=weight gain

In saying that....the reason why low carb works for some is because it can control hunger, control blood sugar levels and keep the munchies at bay. Protein last longer to keep you full instead of refined carbs, but carbs are not evil. Fat doesn't even sastify.

Not everyone can last and do a low carb diet because to some it seems very limited in food choices and they get bored.

I know everyone is different but I was in the best shape of my life when I ate lots of potatoes, veggies and whole grains in my diet. Mainly high fiber foods that worked. (low calories)

    Maybe try WW?

Good move! Low-carb is an effective but toxic method for emergency weight reduction. It is not a long-term solution to weight management. Few people can stick with it because it is so toxic. Good for you for listening to your body!

There are other approaches to weight management that are better long-term solutions. I have heard very good things about the John McDougal plan (low-fat vegan) from people who found it easy to stick to for years.

Remember too that genetics also has a say in every aspect of health, and gaining/losing weight also involves very complex physiological interactions. It is not nearly as black and white as we are often led to believe. Often, through no fault of their own, the deck is stacked against dieters, no matter how determined and disciplined they are.

Heh, that was the diet I followed to a T and it worked for me and was easy. I have his books and go back to him from time to time. That's why I always say it's really not potatoes that are evil.

    Hi there,

Long time lurkier, not a regular poster.

Before you consider giving up, please, please take a look at
a very informative site called: forum.lowcarber.org (sorry if it's
not allowed to put the website name up, pls remove if not suitable).
You can join this site for free and it has lots of info available, especially helpful for recipes and doing low carb on a budget, which may be useful to you. It also has other people's experiences of the ups and downs of sticking with this lifestyle.

I read this site myself because I find it very interesting.

    Hope that helps,
    Kylie

I do not think the low carb plans are healthy.I do not think being overweight is a healthy state. I don't have much more to say about it, but I will tell you that exercise has been found to help jump start a sluggish metabolism.
