We try to be really careful at school as to what are preschoolers eat. IMO, food dyes cause much more problems than sugars. Sounds as if you all have a really good handle on your little ones - wish more families were like you. Perhaps as we share more information the info will make more of an impact.
Kelly, I'd love to hear more that you and your DH discover on your journey with your 2YO.Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

One of the things that really opened our family's eyes (because they were of the "oh it's the sugar not the dyes" camp) was when dh went in for thyroid testing. He had to eliminate ALL red dyes from his diet for two weeks prior to the test because that stuff stays in your body. If it stays there, just what effect does it have??

My guy that we have on the special diet is technically ADHD. But, since he is on diet, he isn't ADHD. It technically is a chemical insensitivity.

I'd have to say that since I started more 'from scratch' cooking with the G-Free diet, DS11 has been responding pretty well to things. Now, I'm not sure if it's the removal of gluten from his diet or the increased ingestion of foods without all of the chemicals in them, but it's definitely a marked improvement.
I know some kids are hypersensitive to food dyes and our DS11 may be one of them. We'll never know unless I give him something with dyes in it that also is gluten-free.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!
