Wedding Ring/Ex-Husband - money
What would you do? I was married once when I was very young. We were together 4 years and split very peacefully. I have since remarried to my husband for 20 years. My question is, should I pawn/sell my original ring? I wont ever wear it again. We didnt have any children, so no one to pass it on to and we could use the money.
Your thoughts please.

If you have a recent appraisal, just sell it for a discount from the appraisal.

I'd sell it. Your Ex hasn't come looking for it in all these years and gold is at good prices. If you are okay with selling it, I'd go for it.

I sold mine - traded it actually - to a local jeweler who gave Ceashles several pieces of nice silver jewelry and I got myself a pinky ring as well.
The ex gave the ring to you. Its your ring. If you can use the money, more power too you.If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

do you guys know how pawn shops work? I know selling to an individual would get more money, but I would like to sell it now rather than 2 months from now.

You go to the pawn shop, you show them the ring, they quote you a price, you say yes or no.
What metal is the ring made of? You *might* do better shopping around at a few jewelry stores. If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Just thinkthat by selling it to get money you actually need, you are showing more respect for it than if you were to throw it away, smash it with a hammer, etc.
It seems like a pretty good idea to sell it.

The ring is 14kt gold solitare 1/4 car. with an anniversary band(14 small diamonds). I called one of the jewelry stores - they dont want it because its not plain gold. If it was a plain band they could melt it down - this way they have to cut the diamonds out.
Thanks,

I'd sell it personally Its not an heirloom in his family and is yours so go for it!!! Save the cash or buy yourself something you love
Oh or you could have it remade.
I was married and divorced young. I gave the ex the ring because it had been his mothers/grandmothers I was told also because dodo swore he meant something too me since I kept it. I had a few other pieces of jewelry I gave to my nieces.~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

YOu're lucky. MY ex never paid for the ring and a collection agency came after me; I'd given it back! I'd sell it, the money for it was considered as a part of your divorce. It's yours; it's just another asset, yours to do what you want with it!
