Default Dear Facebook Users - Your Friends and Family are NOT trapped in London

Just a heads up - if you get contacted out of the blue by a Facebook friend claiming to be trapped in London, just got mugged, and needs an emergency cash loan, please, don't fall for it. It's a scam.

Protect yourself from account hackings on Facebook. Don't allow applications access to your data unless you have good reason to trust that application.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

They had a gal on our news last night that had the call from 'Canada' and she almost went for it.

When she answered the phone the 'voice' even said "grandma?"...and called her later at night (think the story was a car wreck).......gees, what will they think of next?

Thanks for the heads up! I don't understand why people just can't be honest and let everyone enjoy themselves on their favorite sites without causing trouble.

Do you think my DH would really think they are? I would love to trundle off to London to personally help them. And of course as long as I'm there...

Only one of my Facebook friends is in London right now, and I doubt very seriously she would ask me for help, we're just co-workers!

I wish I were trapped in London. Sounds like a nice vacation. Thanks for the heads up, Greebo.

A few months ago, I came into work and logged into Facebook. When it opened, I had several chat windows opened up where someone had pretended to be me and started chatting with friends who were online telling them the whole stranded in London speel. They were people I'd NEVER ask for money from in a million years.

I can vouch for this scam, It's real, someone hacked my account pretending to be me asking for money. If people put half the energy into something productive as they do things like this. . .

I had one of these some time ago from, of all people of my acquaintance, a nun, who would contact the congregation, not random people she knows. Clearly a scam.

It amazes me that people would actually bite on this before doing a good of checking up. But if it weren't profitable, it wouldn't still be floating around, I guess.

If someone calls me with this, I'm going to ask them who their dad is, then their mom, when they were married, how many brothers and sisters they have, what are each of their birthdays, when each of them were married, how many kids they have.... and anything else I can think of!
