Default Pay Cuts and Low Places

    Hi everyone!

Quite obviously, I'm new around here. I typed 'frugal living web board' into Google and this is what I found. A live, active web community full of frugal people. How fantastic is that?

I'm going to admit something: After several years of good financial fortune (not riches, just the ability to sleep at night because the bills are paid) the recession has caught up to us. I'm a stay-at-home-mom in my 30's with three boys ages 12, 6 and 2. I love my life, I love my husband (12 years and counting!) and life is good.

Except for the pay cut he had to take, and the debt we're now accumulating, that is. We're way up there and it's becoming unmanageable. After burying my head in the sand for a few months I'm starting to see that we really need to get our financial life in order or we're going to be in a lot of trouble very soon.

The first step? We need to learn a more frugal way of living. That's why I'm here! We need to reduce our expenses where we can and increase our income if possible. Step 2 is making a living as a freelance writer (I hear it is possible!) so I can work from home without the expenses incurred from a job outside the home.

So there you have. My life in a nutshell right now. It's stressful, we're arguing far more than I'd like, and my kids' birthdays are coming up - all three before Christmas!

You may, occasionally, have to remind me to breathe

Anyway, thanks for letting me introduce myself. I hope to get a lot from the boards and, once I start learning a little more, give a lot back.

    Take care!

Welcome aboard! If you look under the "Money" section under "Debt Reduction and Money Management" you can find a lot of helpful advice on budgeting, cost reduction and the like - and if you're willing to share some specifics, you can get custom tailored advice as well.

Oh and there are a few other forums here have occasional good stuff on wise use of your time and money as well...sometimes...

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
