My neighbors lost their house
I feel so badly for them. I know they had been trying to sell it on and off for a few years. I didn't realize they needed out of it so badly.
I always wondered why they built such a huge house. It was only the 2 of them.
Looks like the bank has it for sale now. We didn't even know they moved out. They did it all so quietly.
Gosh.
It is what it is.

I'm afraid I'm soon going to be watching someone in my family go thru this very thing
This has to be one of the saddest things to happen in somebody's life. I hope somehow they'll find their way back!

They sort of snuck away in the night it sounds like - how sad that all that happened to them. Sure hope a lot of us learn from this lesson. It is so hard to see this happen to people we care about.
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

That is very sad for them. I hope they recover from the set back soon. I know two people this has happened too. Couple one I felt very sad for couple two I couldn't. Because they had started with a loan of 149K on a home valued at 180K. They borrowed new cars, trips etc (while bragging how they did it) right up to 249K. It sold on the auction block for 179

Wow, that is so sad. A friend of mine got evicted from his apartment. He's been out of work for so long, they were managing month by month to just get their rent paid at the last minute, but didn't make it for September. I hope that everyone involved in both instances can make a recovery.

Oh, that's so sad! The house across the street from where we live (rent a MIL apt) went up for sale last week. The husband is a realtor and stock broker, the wife is a realtor. Talk about a double-whammy! They just built it 2 years ago...their dream home... Seems like this is the 'norm' everywhere these days...

That's too bad. I hope that they had somewhere else to live before they had to move out.

I'm going to jump in here and say maybe they did it to themselves. Clue: why was the house so big. Why didn't they buy/build within their means. Did they fill the house with expensive furniture? On credit? I don't understand why people want such big places to live. To impress others?
I think some people in this housing crisis just did it to themselves. I know that may be harsh but it's true.

I have a BIL who fits this category. He couldn't make his house payments, but he could, spend $15,000.00 on a 1969 Camaro to rebuild, waste hundreds of dollars on tattoos, guns, and partying every weekend, and refinanced twice in the last 3 years. And he had the nerve to blame my step-son for his losing the house. My step-son rented an apartment that was built off the back of the garage. He lost his job and had to move out. Sorry, but the loan was given to BIL based on his income at the time and there was no renter. Some people just never grow up IMO.

Sad. DH and I rented an apartment with a high cost ($1100/month) just to be sure we'd be able to pay for the mortgage when we start looking for a home after Christmas. I haven't been unfortunate enough to see this happen, but I know it does.

We were in a really tough position as landlords: evicting someone who wasn't paying his rent. We worked with him for a number of months, but he ended up owing us $2000 and we just couldn't afford to not collect that much money. He kept telling us he was ready to close on a big deal, he'd have the money the next day, the next week, in 10 days, but turns out there was no deal. He did have a huge, honking, all the bells-and-whistles truck, but it must have been for show.
It was very difficult to do.
(We won't get into how much work we had to do on his place to fix it up to re-rent, costing us money and lost rent as it took so much time.)Last edited by Minner77; 09-25-2009 at 07:45 PM. Reason: change the wording
