Thumbs up Big Thanks are well deserved!

Just wanted to give a big thank you to the State Trooper who stopped to help me on the interstate yesterday.

It was raining; groceries, supplies for our foster home loaded the SUV. I heard a noise and thought it was the rear window wipers. I looked at the front panel and saw a new light pop up and had never seen that light before. I then realized I had a flat, on the interstate in the pouring rain. I called hubby to let him know what was going on. I was able to get off to the side of the interstate, construction on the road, to a large enough shoulder to be able to fix it. I've only fixed 2 flats earlier in my life. Hubby was trying to find son to come help. While on the phone, I said Oh God I don't know what I am going to do. I looked up to see a state trooper pull up behind me with his lights on. I got out to talk to him. In a couple of minutes he was getting his raincoat out, getting the jack and spare ready and changed my tire. At one point, he was laying flat on the ground in the water/mud to see where to put the jack.

Needless to say I was so very appreciative of what this young man did. He was concerned about my safety making sure I was standing far enough away in case some fool hit our vehicles. I thanked and blessed this young man for his help. On my way home, I had a little talk with the man upstairs, and thanked him for sending this State Trooper my way.

Didn't get his name, but will surely be in my prayers from now on.

There are still good people in this world and I don't think we tell them enough that they are appreciated. And on that note, I want to tell everyone here thank you for all the advice, frugal tips, recipes and heart felt friendships I see forming.

    THANKS EVERYONE!

Wasn't that wonderful? YOu might try also calling hte local state troopers' office and/or writing a letter/email to tell them how nice it was that one of theirs helped? We're all so quick to tell people who serve us when they get it wrong, I can tell you after 30 years in retail, it's really nice when somene says, "You did a great job!"

    Blessings --

You know, there is and old saying about people who come into your life for a moment, but change it forever. I can tell that little bit of time has left and impression on you that will never go away. Kudos to that young man.

I'm so glad help came along for you when it did! It can really be scary changing a tire on a highway.

DD had a flat last year too. A county sheriff pulled over, let her use his cell phone to call me. I went to go give her a hand with it - it was her first flat. By the time I got there, a State trooper had come along, and he gave her step-by-step detailed instructions on how to change her flat, having her do it herself so she would learn how. I was so grateful for his help, especially being it was on a 4-lane state highway and his car with the lights on sure slowed traffic down around us.

I can sure relate to this! I had a similar experience a few years ago...

Picture this: Winter. Sunday night, after dark. Blizzard blowing, temperature -20. Freeway. I'm driving slow-ish because of the poor visibility. All of a sudden, there's a great big 4x4 fence post lying across my lane of the road. I swerved and got two wheels around it, but two wheels hit it. Right away, I heard the flop-flop-flop of a flat tire. I pulled over and found one tire totally flat and the other hissing. My plan was to change the flat tire and limp to the next town before the other tire went totally flat.

Unfortunately, the lug nuts on the flat tire were frozen solid and wouldn't budge. By the time I was ready to give up on them, the second tire was flat too. I said a few choice words and was considering how I was going to get out of the situation when a set of blue flashing lights pulled up behind my car. I sure was happy to see that cop! He radioed for a tow truck and I was on my way an hour or so later.

It sure is nice when they are around when you need them.

Our men and women in law enforcement get precious little recognition for the work they do. How about the next time you see one at a restaurant, you secretly pick up their tab??? (I figure if you're able to afford a restaurant meal, you could afford to do this) I will if you all will. Report back on the experience, OK?

I was once told that state troopers were not allowed to help someone on the side of the road like that. I am sure glad to hear that what I heard was not true.

Sure is nice to have decent caring people out there willing to help someone in need.

Thank you for sharing the story.

What a great story! I'm so glad that trooper stopped and helped you with your flat. How wonderful to have him come along right when you needed him. Definitely an answered prayer.

This is a wonderful idea. I will definitely do this. I have to run errands tomorrow, I'll will be on the look out for an officer at one of our local restarants. Again what a wondeful idea.

Now that is a wonderful thing to do. I'm in. I can't wait to see how many of us get to do this. Imagine if we did this just once a month with different people. One month police officers, the next month EMT's, or uniformed military personnel. I'm glad the officer came along jantana. I have been helped more than once by a police officer and each time I sent a thank you note to the station. The last time I was 40 miles away from home with a car full of groceries. No one was at home so he took me and my groceries(about 16 bags and 4 cases of Pepsi) back to the station until I could reach someone to come and get me.This was after the car was totaled by a hit and run driver.

Jantana, what a wonderful story. :hug

Could you write a note to your Trooper's HQ and let them know the positive? They mostly recieve complaints and positive notes truly make their day.

The more I think about what this young man did in the pouring rain for me has really touched my heart. I have to go back into the neighboring town where I had my flat today. But before I go, I baked last night, muffins and cookies. I have a large basket. I am going to fill it up, seal it up and drop it of at the DPS office for them to have a treat along with a big thank you from me. Yes I think these people are very much unappreciated and are so often taken for granted until we need them.
