Should I get a Facebook account?
I've been thinking about getting a Facebook account. I'm really on the fence about this. I have an account at EONs. Thats pretty much the same thing, only for Boomers. It's kinda boring over there! I haven't found any groups that I like, to join there. The games are kinda crappy and my firefox doesn't let me play most of them.
I just don't know if I want to go thru all the crap of joining at facebook and then it being a waste of my time too. I mean, whats the point?
So, what cha all think?
Should I go ahead and join facebook?
What exactly goes on over there. You have to join in order to actually SEE anything on the site. Which, IMO, is a bit dumb. It's not like it's a national security site ya know folks.
Gimme your opinions all you facebookers! LOL

I enjoy Facebook, but I haven't been on any other social networking sites so I don't have anything to compare it to. I've actually found many long lost friends and started talking again to family members I haven't talked to in forever because of it. As far as the security, goes--I think they're just trying to protect the members against spammers and the like. I'm also "friends" with a few Villagers on FB. I'd say try it. If you don't like it, you can always "unjoin".

I am so happy I joined Facebook. I have been on many other social networking sites and never connected with the number of friends I have on Facebook. To me, it is easier to navigate than other sites. It is easy to search. Privacy setting are pretty good. Variety is good. IMO it wouldn't hurt anything to give it a try. Plan on giving it a few weeks to get the networking started and moving.

Frug I joined last night and so far I have not been impressed with it.
I can`t get anything but looking at pictures of friends. have posted some.
can`t get to the games where are.
Some one told me it would be fun I haven`t had any fun yet.
Where`s the action at.

I think it's really an individual thing. If you're a very outgoing, chatty person and like to be in touch with lots of people, you might like it. I don't care for it much myself.

You can't really see anything on facebook anyway because the vast majority of people have their profiles set to private.
I like facebook. It's far less noisy and obnoxious than myspace seemed to be. A lot of my family is on facebook so I get updates daily on what they're all doing. My sil posts random updates on my neice and nephew, but it's posted right to the feed so I don't actually have to go check anyone's blog.... all the recent updates are right there when I log on.
Some people get annoying though. I have a lot of young folk on my facebook page and I had to hide their updates because I got sick of looking at totally random pop music lyrics that a few goofballs like to post. Or those that habitually post inside jokes or really cryptic stuff. (I'm convinced that the internet makes half the population dumb whenever they get near it.)
All in all I think it's pretty cool. If firefox doesn't let you play the games on the site you use now though, it may not let you play them on facebook. We used to have that problem a lot. Since we switched to google chrome it hasnt' been a problem.~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~

Interesting information - mahalo - I spend my time at FV and am happy with it. If I every retire, then I may expand to other areas.

Nishu~I'm glad you posted. I didn't know you could hide certain people's updates. I'll check more into that tomorrow.

If you hover over the very right side of the person's update, the "Hide" button will show up. You can't really see it till you hover over it. I deleted a couple people off my friends list before I realized this because their posts were so annoying.

Still fence sitting *sigh* I'm not "chatty" LOL I'm not one those "huggles!" people either yuk! so fake lol
I know my niece is on there all day apparently playing some game LOL
I have no idea if I know anyone else.
Dumb question: Do you have to use your real name? I'm always leery about putting out info on the net.
Thanx to ya all who've answered

You could use your initials with your last name or something.
I had someone on my list who posted things like, "I'm going to the pool." Later, "I've been to the pool." It was like she lived her life on there. Thankfully that hide button is there!

I joined Facebook for awhile, but recently de-activated my account.
Too many of my friends and relatives post everything they do!
I don't really care what time they got up, when they're stuck in traffic, or what they had for dinner. It gets pretty annoying after awhile.

Well, that's the way the system is set up. You put up real name and your maiden name if you want and that allows old friends to search for you and such.
But you don't have to. I see a lot of people with fake names on there. As long as people know who you are it doesn't really matter.~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~
