    Default Preparing for the Winter

Ok so winter is like right around the corner. Tonight its suppose to be 38 winds of 35mph and raining. So that means windchill will be in the 20's ..Right now 58 raining looks like fall out winds starting to pick up. I sit here making my list of winter things that need to be done, finish the fencing before the ground freezes. Paint the one side with at least primier. Put plastic on the windows, we have a 1860's victorian with all original windows. Pulling out the blankets and washing them.. So much to do.

Yep I'm getting ready as well. Checking in on here to get some ideas for this year. I'm not on FV often but I check in now and then.

Was just looking at space heating idea and just can't figgure what way to go. Probably still do the electric space heaters Ive been relying on for the past few years but I would love something a bit better.

Windows need to be covered. Was considering Plexi I have 3 48x36" windows that are old and drafty. Not liking the cost over all of that idea so probably going with plastic sheeting again.

Moving my sleeping arrangements to the small bedroom that has the better windows. Wondering why I didn't consider that a long time ago.

I want to turn the large bed room into an excercise room so I have a good place for home martial arts practicing.

I don't have too much to do. Dh and I spent Sunday working in the yard. We dug up the banana trees and elephant ears, put netting over the pond, trimmed some tree branches, etc. I already went through the clothes and got the warmer ones out. Now it's just a matter of washing the heavy blankets, getting the draft dodgers out and bringing the space heaters upstairs for the bathrooms (so we don't have to crank the heat up every time someone takes a shower.) Dd18 will crash on the comfy couch again this winter because her room is downstairs and it gets COLD down there.

We got six inches of snow yesterday and have to say I wasn't quite ready for it, we pretty much start preparing early september and are just about done and the weatherman said we were only getting a dusting so I wasn't too worried, but now I have to wait a few days for some sun to help melt this and finish what I need to do. Although my avatar is not on my property, that is how it pretty much looks right now and I am so cold now, brrrrrr. It's nice with the woodstove and the temps aren't too bad, but just looking outside makes you feel cold!

DH and I also worked on the yard this last Sat. Trimmed all the evergreen bushes (3 LARGE ones) cleaned up the yard of weeds, vacuumed all the "stuff" up.

Today, I changed the filters in the furnase and vacuumed it out.

Sometime this week we will finish it up. All that is left is to winterize the swamp cooler.

We are going to attempt a garage sale next weekend.

It was 88 degrees here yesterday!
We don't really get much "winter" until at least December - usually January and February.
While I don't want snow, a little cold air would be welcome.

    Snow!?! Already?

Our daytime highs are still in the 80's here in the deep south. We only have a month or two of winter, and that doesn't start until Jan - so I'm not getting too much done to "get ready" yet.

I am starting my blanket crochet project, for DD - who always complains that she's cold in the winter... does that count?

Two weeks ago the average temp was 89 during the day. This week it should reach 55. CRAZY! Its been 28 degrees at night the past 5-6 days and we had snow flurries on Sunday. I need to get the kids winter clothing out. Luckily I leave some of out during the year because we do get crazy weather here and there. I am supposed to have a yard sale on Friday. Hopefully I can get that all done. But I might push it back one more week.

We live Maine so you can imagine our winters. Last year wasn't so bad. I picked up caulking for around the windows. Tommorow I clean the woodstove to make sure it is all ready. That is now our main heat source. Wood is all ready, dried, and stacked, except about 1/2 a cord. I expect we will have a colder winter becaus we have had a coller summer and the trees are changing color fast.
