Default Dickies, forgot how warm they are

I haven't worn a dickie (sp?) since I was a kid. Well I saw some at the thrift store for $.99 each. So I picked some up. Was sitting here at the computer thinking, boy am I cold. Then remembered the dickies and put one on. It really is amazing how warm you feel when your neck is covered. Might make a trip to the thrift store tomorrow to see if they have anymore on sale.

I just saw some fleece ones at Dollar General & was thinking it was a good idea. It does help to stay warm keep your neck covered.
You got a good deal! They were more than .99 at DG, not sure of the exact price though.

Well I went today to the thriftstore. Only found one dickie so I bought it. Will have to check the dollar store to see if they have any.

I know this is a dumb question but what is a Dickie? I know the clothing with that name but nothing else.

It's basically a neck. It has 2 pieces of cloth to keep the neck in place. You look like you are wearing a turtle neck.

Ahmom, as soon as read the first post I thought of cousin Eddie and laughed. Then I saw your post and laughed harder.

Every time I think of a dickie I think of that white sweater with that black dickie underneath.

My grandmom was from Canada. She used to always tell us kids, "Cover up your glands!" Meaning keep your neck covered so you don't get a sore throat.

To this day my sister and I tell each other, "Cover up your glands!" then laugh, but I think my grandmom was on to something. I am warmer when my neck is covered. Or glands

Sounds like a good idea for keeping warm.

Other names are 'cowls,' 'gaiters,' or 'neckwarmers.'

It's funny that I got on FV today and read this post: Just this morning, I put on the only neckwarmer I have ever made. It's the first time I've worn it, and it is wonderful.

The designer has the free pattern posted here:
