Help..I've been suspended from my job..
I'm a CNA and work in Connecticut..I'm being accused of something I didn't do..I'm being investigated..I need to know that if I'm terminated that I can collect unemployment working 24hrs a week? I've been at my facility for 14 1/2 yrs..I've been working 24hrs for at least 6yrs now 32 hrs a week on the other years not that that matters.....My dad said he didn't think I could collect anything being a part time employee...I'm scared right now..I never thought being such a faithful/honest employee that I would be set up like this..Anyway I tried to call the unemployment office but I can't seem to find out if what my dad said is true? Can anyone help me find the answer?TIA..

If you are terminated you will have to fight it out for the unemployment. That happened to me a long long time ago. I ended up not getting it. Hugs.

I have absolutely no advice except to hang in there - I hope the truth comes out soon. I can only imagine how panicked you must feel.

Look online and see if your state has a website for the unemployment office. Many have Q&A sections that might provide some answers for you. I hope this is all resolved soon and in your favor!

I don't think it matters the number of hours you have worked when collecting unemployment. Most states have some formula that is used to caculate what if any benefit you would be entitled too. Proving you lost your job through no fault of your own may be an issue. If you are terminated by your employer because their investigation says you did whatever they are saying you did to suspend you while they investigate. Could be interpreted by the enemployment office as your termination being your own fault.

Usually if you are just fired/laid off/let go you can collect no matter how many hours a week you have been working. Most employers will pay even if they fired you for not doing a good job.
However if they fire you "with cause" because you did something very wrong or illegal then they can refuse to pay you unemployment and you will have to fight them if you believe this is unjustified. This can also happen if your employer is a vindictive jerk.
If you quit you get nothing.
I'd also like to point out that being suspended and investigated is your employers way of covering their backside in the event of a lawsuit. You're in nursing and if there is a complaint they can't continue to let you work if patients are at risk. I know the accusation hurts, but it's not about you, it's about the company you work for.Use it up, Wear it out,

Are employed at a unionized facility? Even if you are not a union member you have a right to some union representation. It is under the collective bargaining aggrement.
There also may be an employee grievence process. You can challenge the investigation.

I would research and get an attorney who specializes in employment matters. I think there are some who work with wrongful termination.

If you are being investigated for something you did not do, than you need to be very proactive and on the offense. Not the defense.
Call the labor board. Call the state too. Call and state your side.
I used to work with a nurse who was set up by another employee. This person accused the nurse of sticking her with an insulin needle. Had someone accused me of sticking them with a needle, I would have called the police immediately.
I'm so sorry this is happening to you. However this has happened where I work too and most times cases are found unfounded. Hang in there!

So sorry you are going through this.
I was terminated from a job last year for something I did which I did not know was against policy. Thankfully, I had a second job at the time and was able to pick up there, but truthfully, I'm still scarred over it.
I just today started looking for another hospital job, and am concerned that this will be held against me.
I've decided that if God wants me back in the hospital, He'll make a way and open up a path. You're in my prayers.
