Default Has anyone tried the Zone Diet?

I heard about this diet on a tv program and thought I might give it a try. I have been doing this diet for 3 days and so far I have lost 8 pounds. I weighed 172 lbs when I started and I weigh 164 right now. I want to lose 30 pounds. I am so tired of being a little overweight and I don't want to take pills. I am not sure if this diet is what I want to do either. I kind of feel hungry most of the time even though I think I am actually eating more. You are not supposed to eat a lot of starches and very little bread is allowed with the diet. I don't think potatoes are even on this diet and I live in Idaho. Potato capital of the country. I do feel like I have more energy though. Any thoughts?

IMO it is one of the better dietary plans out there, since it emphasizes truly balanced nutrition (carbs, protein, vegetables). It's a way of eating that you can follow for life, not just for quick weight loss.

Your body will go through some changes the first couple weeks, don't judge the diet on one bad day.

I don't have a clue what the zone diet is but on the news tonight it talked about a woman trying to lose weight before her wedding. She had dropped 53 pounds (I think, 50 something) on a new or newer diet plan. She died. She was eating between 500 and 600 calories a day. Just be careful, we don't want anything to happen to you.

No way could I limit myself to that few calories. I don;t know the exact amount of calories but it really has a lot of fruits and veggies. It has a whole list of foods that you can eat as much as you want basically.I just really miss my doritos I guess.

I think it's a really good diet but figuring out, counting and keeping track of all the blocks was too much of a hassle for me....I think I lasted all of about 9 days before I threw in the towel.

Hmm....never read up on this diet but I was told that it was similar or a bit more extreme then the South Beach Diet. I generally follow the SBD and am ok with it though I've been slacking off a bit When I did follow it and exercised properly, it was great.

But losing 8 lb's within 3 days does not sound healthy to me nor wise. Thats just my opinion though. Has your DR ok'ed you going on the 'Zone Diet'?

I am not sure how or where I lost 8 pounds. I followed the diet exactly as it is online for the first three days of menus. I completely cut out soda and drank only water, tea and juice in addition to the food the menu called for. I had to give in today and had 1 soda. I think my system is getting used to the diet though because I don't feel as hungry in the evenings and my weight loss has slowed considerably.

A friend of mine really liked the zone diet as a way of eating that made sense to her!! It sounds sensible and realistic - I would miss doritos too or anything of that genre!! keep us uptodate as to how you are doing?

I did it and I lost weight on it but I was always hungry.

I am on Atkins now and I dont have that problem whatsoever. In fact it completely broke my addiction to carbs. I never thought I would see the day.
