My BF was so romantic he took me out to a dark field to watch the fourth of July fireworks. (this was before telephone registering let alone computer) Of course I didn't want anyone to see me all pocky and scabby.

My kids got the shots when they first came out.
Would never subject them to that. I still have pock marks 30 years later here and there.
My little sister got the vaccine, and still got (a very mild case of) chicken pox. It was enough to cause just a few blisters and she scratched. She has a mark right in the middle of her forehead.

So...I wouldn't count on the varicella vax to protect your kids from either the virus or pox scars.

~Aww, poor thing! Hope he gets better quickly!
I don't remember having it but I did have chicken pox as a kid. I have a couple of scars on my face. :/
Hoping I don't have to watch my kids go through the pox misery. They've been inoculated so hopefully they're immune.~

I had measles as a kid but I didn't get chicken pox until I was 23. I had a bad case and was soooo sick. I caught them from my niece and then my son caught them from me. The good thing was he had a light case but enough for immunity. Been there done that and not going back.

I had them on Christmas day when I was about 8 years old. We had gone to my grandparents and the house was packed with relatives. I had an infected looking spot on my arm with pus and I remember my grandma pouring almost boiling water on it over the sink! Still have the scar.

I remember when my kids had them. The older one got them from the younger one.

The younger one had a normal case of them. Blisters, some fever, felt kind of bad (and he was usually my whiner!)

The older got a terrible case of them--higher fever, many more blisters/blebs, even on the bottom of his feet, making it a little uncomfortable to walk. He felt terrible.

I think everyone has a different intensity of reaction.

We're watching him pretty closely. DS11 had the vaccine and both DH and I had them as a kid, but we're still concerned with exposure. DS6's pox are still red and there's no head on any of them yet.

I think right now it's just my concern about contaminating the other kids, but I'll watch him to make sure he's ok to go out if they're gone by Saturday.

Quite frankly no. I do not remember having chicken pox or the measles. My mother doesn't remember either.

I had them when I was six months old. My mom said I was exposed then devloped only two bumps on my belly. She wasn't even sure I did have it because it was so mild. But I did test immune to it, so I guess that's what it was. My kids have both had the vaccine. My oldest child did get a mild case of the shingles three months after he got vaccinated. The doctor was shocked.

OMGosh, I had the mumps in my first grade picture. I'm grinning from ear to ear and I look like a bull frog from my chin down. I got lucky with my son, he had them the Christmas before he turned a year old.We had to stay away from both sides of the family, my BIL and my x-husbands nephews wife had never had them. I was amazed he never scratched them, he was his jolly little self. I have pictures of him with them scattered all over his bald lillte head. He broke out again about 3 weeks later, the doctor said he just had the rash no fever the second time, once is never enough for that kid.I was 10 and missed the circus.
