Default Remember when you had chicken pox as a kid?

DS6 has them. He started getting them yesterday. He's such a trooper! He's rarely complained about itching and always asks me for more calamine lotion when he gets itchy. We gave him an Aveeno oatmeal bath that seems to really help.

When I was a kid, I was in absolutely agony. My mom never put calamine lotion on me at all.

We're keeping DS6 out for the week and we've all had it. The problem exists that we can't take him out Saturday night for Halloween. Alas, we're having a party with the four of us this weekend. I figure if we can't go out, we can have fun here.

I may be mistaken but I don't think he will still be contagious by Saturday. I am going to Google to confirm that, but he might still be ok to go out.

Boy do I remember! The mumps too! Ds had them when he was round six also, he's 24 now. DD has never had them. One of my school pictures was taken right after and you can see those ugly pox marks in the photo.

I never had chicken pox as a kid........

we they came out with the vaccine, I was first in line (in my 20s). But they took a blood test and my blood says I had it. My mom says I didn't.

    go figure

I would think he could go out by this Sat too. (maybe it depends on how severe he gets it)

I checked in 3 places - once the blisters have crusted over the child is no longer contagious.

    Hope this helps

I have had chicken pox at age 9, 19, and then shingles this past summer, so I feel so bad for your fella!

I am glad he is dealing with it like a trooper! As soon as he crusts over and has no active blisters, he isn't contagious, so he may be okay by Saturday. However...your other son has been exposed. Let's knock on wood that he doesn't get it.

I've never had chicken pox. I did have measles as a child. And a few years ago, I contracted whooping cough.

Oh my goodness YES, I remember all too well. I was 11 -it was May and I had it horribly. I had what was diagnosed as a "secondary infection". My fever shot up to 105...I had a huge red spot on my back on the right side....and red streaks were running from it. I was soooo miserable - not to mention the itching.UGH. Hugs for your little boy, I can just imagine what he has been putting up with. My 3 oldest children came down w/chicken pox when they were little. The 2 older boys had a mild case..then dd#1 had a bad case & dd#2 was only 2 months old & she never broke out, even though she was exposed to it (my antibodies were still with her, I guess). The other kids have been vaccinated. I wish that Aveeno had been on the market when I had chicken pox. Give your son some extra candy

I don't remember having them myself - but I do remember my oldest son having them - 2 years in a row, both times in time for Easter.

I remember having them, but didn't have them super bad...I think I was about 7? Mom gave me calamine lotion, too... I vote for lots of candy, cartoons, and other treats. Hope they pass quickly and he feels better soon!!

Halloween is looking more and more doable for you and your family. And if you need to have a family party - that will work out too!!

I was thankful that my mom had calamine lotion to calm the itch!!

    Take care!!

no,I never had them as a kid. I did have them at 19 and almost missed registering for college one semester. I worried I would be sterile and not have kids!!
My BF was so romantic he took me out to a dark field to watch the fourth of July fireworks. (this was before telephone registering let alone computer) Of course I didn't want anyone to see me all pocky and scabby.

My kids got the shots when they first came out.
Would never subject them to that. I still have pock marks 30 years later here and there.

Yes I was 3 and my brother was 2. My mom put baby powder on them for some reason LOL. Both of my kids have had them too. Dd caught them in first grade, I think every kid in her class had them. Then about 17 days later, ds had them too. Both had them really bad.

I had shingles once as an adult too, OMG talk about miserable!

If he has even one blister he is still contagious so I think keeping him home is a good idea. My ds had blisters for two weeks with his. Could you maybe have neighbors or friends come by and put candy into a basket on the stoop for him? That would be kind of reverse trick or treating!

I had chicken poxs as a kid and got them again when I was 24 I was so sick that time around. I had them in my ears and around my eyes. I couldn't even roll over with out the blisters breaking. When I first went to the er the took me in a room away from other patients because they were so big they didn't know what it was a first. Even with gloves on the drs wouldn't even touch me.
