Oh crap (literally)!!!
The city was working out in front of my house on Friday of last week. Yesterday I did a load of laundry and noticed that there was water all over the floor. I though I had another leaky hose (like last year) so I shut it off with plans to diagnose and repair on Monday.
Fast forward to a load of dishes in the dishwasher, several bathroom usages and three showers. I went down to wak up my daughter (who has her room in the basement) and stepped in a pile of wet laundry. I then realized that any water that should be draining from the house was backing up through the drain hole in the bathroom floor.
The city came immediately and is working on repairing this, they are in my basement with some big machine....

Oh yuk! Sorry for the mess you are going through.
I agree with other poster......keep track of expenses and make sure they get the basement DRY otherwise problems will come up later. Just 'sucking up the water' isn't going to do it.
GOOD LUCK......let us know how it goes.

Well they fixed the blockage and told me it was merely coincidental that this occurred. Hmmm..... they said that flushing female products (which they found when they finished unblocking the lines) was waht had caused the problem.
Initially I was a bit embarrassed and grateful that they had fixed the problem gratis.......however, if we have lived here three years, with two of us flushing girlie stuff once a month and NEVER had any problem at all, is that really what caused it suddenly? I have been bleaching the daylights out of my basement (which is finished with laminate floors) and pondering this all day. I am not a bigger beleiver in coincidence.
What do y'all think? Tampons or tree roots?
