Question ?...How much do you spend on each child for Christmas and Birthday?

I have an 8 yo son and he was asking how much I spend on him for Christmas (this is his first year knowing who Santa is and his birthday (1/3/10), he thinks $500 for both (BAH!!!!) and I told him I do between $250-$300 for both. How much do YOU spend on each child for Christmas and Birthday and how old is the child? Thank you

15 and 12 $400 each for Christmas and $150 for birthday. This may seem like a lot but we're in a neighborhood where kids are getting both laptops, ipods for Christmas along with a myriad of other gifts.

This year it will be $150.00 per child who are 91/2DD and 8DS, the gifts will be mostly use full items, DD wants to paint her room so she will be getting a galon of paint and some brushes (I know it seems weird but its right up her alley) and DS will most likely be getting a new comforter and something for his room, plus the required undies and socks for the kids.

DS will be having a small birthday party on 12/20, he likes to go to Hooters for wings so DH may take him and watch football, total guy day.

Usually around $100. This year DD#1 wants a gameboy. I'm trying to find one used on Craigslist where my Mom is so she could sent it to me, if not I'll have to buy new which is $130. I also got her some bath foam, a gameboy game that I bought 2 years ago at Target knowing one day it would be given and some character panties.

DD#2 wanted a laptop (v-techs $20) and a board game. She is also getting bath foam and character socks.

DH is getting a case for his PSP and a game. I'll also get some shower gels that he likes, but we don't normally buy (like axe).

Standard for my one 8yrold for Christmas is $350-400 and birthday is much less at $100. However, included in the Christmas are clothes for winter (Colorado has late winters lately) that may or may not be considered "gifts", and she is an only child.

~We don't celebrate holidays but our kids' b-days are the last week of December. Our budget is $100 each although we don't usually spend that much. They are turning 5 and 7.~

When I shopped for my family it mostly depended on how much I saved. Usually for my parents it was up to $100. Then that was taken out of the amount I had save and divided by 8. I was fortunate since there really was not any pressure to even buy the nieces and nephews presents. Just wanted to because I did not have kids and thought it would be fun. So sometimes it would be $20, $10, $15, all depending on how much I had saved.

It is great you are teaching your son about money at such an early age.

Lindsey DD has a gameboy that she doesn't use since getting a ds for her bday. I can send you pics if you're interested. It's pink and she has a couple games for it. As for us we decided $100-$150 each for christmas this year. YDD bday is a couple days after christmas and we don't have a set amount yet. They are still pretty young and have just started to request more big ticket items.

I have boys 6,8, 9. We spend about $50 for b'days and $100-150 for Christmas. We buy mostly practical stuff too. They use their gift cards from out of town family for toys.

My oldest two are probably getting nintendo DS's for christmas and I'm getting my youngest a cleaning set with say a broom and dust pan because she's into that... aside from that we're already done I think. We'll probably be around 250 a kid for the oldest and 100 for the youngest.

One of the cool things about having 3 is that you can by less for each kid and it still looks like a lot on Christmas morning.

We have a 10 year old DS and 2 year old DD. We spend about $150 each at Christmas and $100 on birthdays (both in summer) plus they get a party. Some of DS's friends get A LOT more than he does, but he doesn't mind. I've always stressed to him that gifts are not what Christmas is about. Since we don't spend as much as others, I make sure his gifts are stuff he wants, not clothes. This year he is getting a digital camera and a watch. DD is getting a dollhouse that I bought two years ago (great deal!) and have been holding onto. She will also get some books and maybe a bike.
