Default Dipped our toes in the pools of the wealthy tonight

and found ourselves surrounded by sharks.

Just a hop, skip and a jump from us is the pharamceuticals and those made wealthy by them. Huge multi million dollar homes have taken over the farm land, and just recently they built a shopping meca for the wealthy.

This food store is unlike any other, it covers over an entire block, front, back and sides. In this food store there are several stores, including a natural food store that has organic clothing, toys, food, supplements, and the things you expect to find in a whole foods store. There's a huge cheese shop with cheeses that tip the scale at $40 a pound, there's a fancy butcher shop, a seafood shop with shrimp that top out at $30 a pound and cavair that is in the hundreds, There's a beer and wine distributor, a pub that serves fancy dinners, 6 different restaurants, asain hot bar, or cold food fruit & grain bar, and a coffee shop, all where you purchase your meal and then either go to the lounge where they have comfy sofas and fireplaces (for the young rich yuppies sit back and enjoy their beer/wine and meal in a kicked back enviroment) or 1 of the 2 dining rooms where you can enjoy your meal in a family enviroment (play things, ect) or a warm subdued alcove (nothing food court about any of it), a fancy bakery, a full service florist, a pharmacy. These are all individual stores within this grocery store. I've cut the list short I can't begin to name it all. It is beyond anything I've ever seen.

Now, the prices are far from our regular budget but in their flyer they send out they have these crazy sale prices and of course I'm going to take advantage of them. Their just too enticing, tonight's haul was worth the indignation (almost) I know from prior experience that this part of town's a bit on the snooty side, I just had no idea how offended the weathy would be that we were in their shopping meca. After several scornful looks, and huffy attitudes as I manuevered my cart in the crowded store, a women walks past my 15 year old son, looks him in the eye, she snorts and calls him city trash and walks off. Now this is totally unprovoked, she just did not like the looks of my son in his hoodie and shoulder length hair. My son is clean, well groomed, gets his hair trimmed every 6 weeks, his clothes fit well~are not dragging down his behind, nothing goth or ghetto about him. He attends church, Sunday school. youth group, serves on the KC crew (as a mentor for younger kids), is on a performing arts team, and serves the less fortunate in our community, and he works very hard to get good grades. He is in no way city trash. Grrr....I wanted to rip her face off. Nice way for a Christain woman to act huh? I didn't say a word, but I was very close to stooping to her level. What's wrong with the privileged in this world that think their superior to those not at their income level?

Now, that woman might be wealthy, but she sure was acting low-class.

Well first, she's not a Christian or she wouldn't have done that. She may THINK OR CLAIM she is but ...
Quite frankly, and heaven knows I'm frank, I would have came back at her. She'd been lucky that's all she got. I'd been lucky I didn't end up in jail cause I wouldn't have ignored it. City trash???... read on, this is me

Polly mahalo for the description of this mecca of money - it's a place where I would never want to go. I am so sorry that your and your son were exposed to such a situation, but unfortunately there are people like that all over the place. I'm glad that you didn't stoop to her level because she's not wowrth the energy. Hugs to you and yuour family for being the people you are - the type of people that I want to be with.

What a cruel, heartless thing to say to your son.

My Grandson is alot like your son. 16 years old,
very active in church, straight A's. I don't know
what I would have done if that had been me.
I probably would have done what you did, but it
would have been SO HARD not to say anything.

I can't imagine how that made your son feel. I
hope, though, that he was able to shrug it off
and realize that some people are just mean &
think themselves above others. Too bad she
didn't trip and fall while she was walking away
with her nose up in the air!

Hugs to you and your son!!
You have succeeded in life when all you really want is only what you really need.

Niko I'm not sure but I think that Polly was referring to herself and her desire to smack that crap of her when she mentioned a Christian woman...

Btw I'm totally going to steal that line for future use.

Props to Polly for amazing self restraint.

I was referring to myself as the Christian woman who was having some very unchristian like thoughts. I was not feeling very charitable at that moment and it truly took everything I had to refrain from some truly bad behavior. I'm still finding it hard to summon self restraint in the matter.

Here's the web site of the store. In one of the video clips a woman's husband said his wife thought it was better then Disney World!

i wonder what the uppah class teenagers are wearing these days?
    11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
    credit card debt 7500
    mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
    then live on the rest!

i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

That was unbelievably rude of her! I work with lots of wealthy parents and teenagers and rarely see that attitude thank heavens! As far as how I see wealthy teens dress ummmm pretty much exactly like the rest of them and as a stylist that longer hair is popular with many teen boys ~ wealthy or not. I think she just hates everyone! What a miserable woman!

So sorry that your son had to hear something like that, but he sounds like a good boy with his head on his shoulders so he will surely take it for what it was...a sad, bitter woman just being mean. I hope it doesn't deter you from shopping there again, after all you said the deals are great and your money is just as good as anyone else's. i feel like avoiding the place after this would be teaching your son the wrong lesson, you have the right to shop there with your head held high!
