Where Are We Now and What Day Is It?
Hi All,
Just thought I'd post a little something. Have not been on for quite a while, first because I was working as a Seasonal Park Ranger in Cape Hatteras National Seashore, and then we having been traveling. Keeping the website up-to-date now is so much easier because I have had the time and the internet connection!
Sasha and I have gotten a new rig, much bigger for the full-timing experience, but we had lived in the Truck Camper for ~2.5 years! And hadn't killed each other! But the bigger rig is a much better way to go. We can both be at the table on our computers and still have space.
Anyway, we are now at a rest stop near Wilsonville, Oregon - huge place for anyone that needs to stop for a day or night or two. No hookups but quiet as can be for a truck stop. What day is it? I think Saturday...If I did not have my computer, I would not know. Not wearing a watch again until I start work again as a Park Ranger.
If you want to see some of the great places we have been, I suggest checking out our newest page: Laura-n-Sasha's Oregon and I will have pictures up tonight of where we stayed today November 14th. Thanks and I look forward to checking out the forums again.

It looks like you are touring my part of the country.
I agree that the the Wilsonville Rest Area is huge. I had never seen anything like it before.
I looked at your blog and you have to nice pictures of Washington and yes the view from the mountain locator (near Goldendale, WA) is beautiful. My DH and I travel that road when going to visit my family in Ellensburg, WA.
I have fun in the pacific northwest.Julie

Hi frugalfriend,
We are headed to Eugene to get solar panels put onto the RV, that way we do not need to be hooked up at a campground and can go where ever the sun shines and have power. From there, we will go to Grant's Pass, OR to get the rig checked out, there is a company that goes over the systems for you, making sure the truck works well with the 5th wheel. From there, we are headed to California and ultimately Death Valley, we will try to be off the grid for a little while.
I have not yet gotten another job with the park service, they usually start around now and mostly in December, posting jobs for next summer. I will have to get my resume up to speed and start sending out resumes then. So we will still need to be close enough to some way of getting internet, but we are playing it by ear right now.
Thanks for the interest!

Hi Bonnie,
Yes, we will be in Eugene in the next couple of days. Just wondering, there is a Winco there, have you been to it? Is it big? There is one here in Salem where we are now, and I was just wondering if they are relatively the same no matter where you are? The one in Utah was huge and I was overwhelmed by what they had, some things that were very frugal in cost. Thanks for your input.

Laura, y'all are living the dream! What did you do initially to get in w/ the park service? We have a 32' Class A and we can only take a trip every 6 weeks or so. When dh retires we want to go full time or close to it when we the kids go off to college.
Are you going to have the solar professionally installed or DIY? Where are you gonna store the batteries? Oh how exciting!
Are y'all boondocking mostly? We haven't done that much as we haven't gotten ourselves set up well enough to dry camp yet.
Have you seen http://www.boondocking.org/

I'm going to bookmark your blog. So far it's an interesting rig. Your 5th wheel is beautiful!
