Wow! I wouldn't know where to begin but to take up the carpet and throw it away.

I know white vinegar works very well getting out dog odors.

One time we rented a house that a male cat sprayed the carpet in a spare bedroom. We tried all kinds of stuff, including white vinegar. Nothing worked.

I hope someone can help you. Maybe some of the newer pet products will work.

If you remove the carpet you need to remove the pad too..and seal the subfloor with varnish or paint before you put new down..It will be in the wood too.

I read your post as that the carpet has already come out, but the smell is still there? What is the flooring made of? Wood? What is the smell? You could be looking at sealing all the walls, and then repainting. If the floors have been soaked in urine or the like, they too will need to be cleaned and sealed, possibly the sub floor might need to be replaced/ treated as well.

Can you clairfy as to what the issue is?

Forget varnish. Not on a sub floor.

Seal the subfloor with a good heavy coat of KILLZ Primer and Sealant.

It'll stink for a day or so, then you'll never smell dog cat or paint again.

We just got done this in the rental. Use KILZ, put a good coat down, use a roller,

we had a couple spots that we went back over, just to make sure it was sealed up. Make sure you get along the wall & floor too.

I read your post and thought there is not enough baking soda in the world to help. I have used the natures miracle when I had kittens.

It does sound like you need to find some type of sealant on the subfloors. Also will probably need to find a good primer (with additives?) to prime the walls and ceilings and paint everything. Only say this since walls can be porous and absorb smells. Also animals could have sprayed walls. Keep as many windows open for as long as possible.

Good Luck. Let us know how it goes and what worked.

Kilz - oil based primer & sealant - does the job.

after you kilz, you can doubly maker sure nothing seeps through, paint over the kilz with deck paint.

As a flooring contractor, may we offer a suggestion?

The carpet and pad are gone, yes? If not, chuck 'em. You'll be left with subfloor for awhile, but you can seal it with KILZ. Use a roller.

Later, in our experience, it might serve well to replace the subfloor, a piece (or more) at a time if you have to. Then replace your flooring later with whatever it is you choose.

thanks all. The floor has Laminate tiles on it. Try to get them up? or paint over with the KILZ? wow this is a rental . I think the land lord should be paying for some of this.

    Oh its a RENTAL?

Did you already sign the lease?

I think this is definitely a landlord issue. I wouldn't sign the lease while it still smells.
