I had a Turkish Angora I got from The Toronto Humane Society, I had to give him a bath when I got him his fur was so matted and clumped with grease. Boy was I surprised at his vet visit when they told me waht he was. I named him Fabio, after the male romance/ actor model. He moved house to house with me thru college and back to Florida to live at my parents Print shop. He couldnt live at Moms house because Mike the original Pound Kitty was 18yrs old and was not inclined to share his house or humans.
I miss Fabio he passed away 10 yrs ago from kidney failure.
Now we have Budd, he was found in the dumpster and would fit in the palm of my hand. Budd now weighs 20lbs and regularly beats the new puppy into shape!Katie ~ Mummy of 2

I get my kitty fix from the shelter, because they will call me about half a dozen times each year looking for a foster for mother cats and their kittens. I foster them until the kittens wean, at which point mamma cat goes back for spay/neuter and adoption. Then, when the kittens are old enough for spay/neuter, they go back as well. Typically, the foster lasts anywhere from 2-5 weeks, at the end of which I'm usually ready to not have cats again.

I do have Schroedinger (aka Stupid Feral Cat) who has been hanging out for probably a year now. She is wild and won't get anywhere near me, but shows up like clockwork for breakfast and dinner every day.DH aka Mad Hen

My life is ruled by cats. We have two: Liesl, a gray tabby girl and Owen, an orange tabby boy. Both are ferals, rescued when they were kittens. Liesl is a scaredy-cat, very intelligent, but very cautious. She would be a good mother if we hadn't had her fixed. Owen is a big sucky baby who likes nothing better than to curl up on his Mommy's lap. They don't particularly like each other.
We were going to keep them indoors for their own safety and the safety of the local bird population. However, DW thought it would be nice if they could get some fresh air whenever they chose. So, I built an enclosed shelter on the deck, complete with a metal roof, and installed a cat door in the wall so they could go in and out.
Then DW thought they were getting bored and that they needed to roam a bigger area. I erected a fence around an old abandoned rock garden and connected it to the deck enclosure with an enclosed ramp. After a few modifications to prevent escapes, they can run in and out when they want in relative safety. Remarkably, our cats don't climb over the fence.
The same cannot be said for the neighbour's cat, who started coming over to visit when they were away on an extended trip. He would climb the fence in to our cats' play area, then trot up the ramp to the deck enclosure. Luckily, he hadn't figured out how to work a cat door, so he never came into the house uninvited, but he sure scared the cr@p out of out cats.
So, I had to cover the top of the play area with netting to keep the neighbour's cat out. It seems to be working so far. On the other hand, the neighbour's cat is locked out of his humans' house at night, and the rainy season has started. We have had some huge storms in the last couple of weeks, and the poor kitty has had to try to find a warm, dry place to sleep.
Which brings me to this week's project: a hotel for the neighbour cat to stay in when he comes over to visit. It is made of scraps of cedar boards. It has a basement with a 40 watt light bulb for heat, a nice dry bedroom, and an insulated attic.

One spoiled rescue kitty - Puddin. She is about 13 yrs old now. Adopted her 3 yrs ago from a local rescue. She was 5.1 pounds - spent 4 days at the vet before we could bring her home. She is 10 lbs now, perfect condition - happy, bouncy, loving! She hates other cats and dogs (she is aggressive towards them - even big dogs), is inside only (gets to go out on our screened in porch), and eats better than us humans (she is raw fed - mainly rabbit). Love her to pieces - she is at attached to us as we are to her. We always have adopted older kitties, and all have come from rescues/shelters/pound.
Our vet had Puddin's before/after pictures posted on her website here: http://www.arklevetcare.com/site/vie...d=z03cni5ugkxtLast edited by cejhome; 11-19-2009 at 08:39 PM. Reason: additional info

The bf was looking into getting a bengal or savannah but I'm afraid that I'm too allergic to them. It's a big investment to um...rent a cat for a month or so to figure out if I'm allergic to it. They're supposed to be hypoallergenic but my allergies will have to dictate the outcome.

We have a black cat that looks like he's part Main Coon. He was a feral cat we adopted. He likes to chase sponge balls and retrieve like a dog. He looks just like YankeeMom's mcs but he is all black with a spot of white on his chest. His long belly hair is gray. He doesn't like to be picked up and held because he's so BIG!
