It's ironic how we are supposed to save energy, except when it comes to drying clothes outdoors in narrow-minded communities by people who have a misplaced fear of seeing my "giant underpants" (as Pee Wee Herman called them) pinned to the line.
Before we bought our home 3-years ago we asked if there were restrictions to hanging clothes outdoors, because that would have been a deal breaker. When we planned the landscaping we designed a laundry courtyard with a small patio and an umbrella clothes line on the side yard.
I might add, don't discount hanging clothes in basements or in garages as options to those of you who are restricted from hanging laundry outdoors. I'm loving my basement drying room, especially this time of the year.

We live in a neighborhood where is isn't specified in the covenants that we can't have a clothesline, but I know my neighbors and I know they would freak out if we hung our clothes outside.
So we hang ours inside. It works.

I hang my wash out all year around. This is why I don't live in a development with associations that can tell me what to do.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I would definately hang more to dry outside if the apartment complex didn't consider it a fire hazard. Then again there are smokers on one side of me so I also don't want them smelling of smoke.
Hope they start changing the laws on air drying. I do remember one place I lived. In the summer they had clothes lines in the attic. Those clothes dryed so fast up there.

I know the story referenced a few towns that had tried to get people to stop, but this is yet another reason I would never live anywhere with a HOA.

I agree thats why I don't live in area that would stop me. I think people around her and others need to worry about more important things.

Banning clotheslines is no longer permitted in Ontario, any HOA or community bylaw which prohibits them is now void. The province has too much trouble meeting the power demands in the summer, they'll do anything to get people to cut their usage.

One of the reasons why I live in the country.
Nobody complains about me hanging clothes on the line.

Banning an environmentally friendly, perfectly safe and money saving practice is silly.
I live in an apartment, so an outdoor clothesline is difficult, but I have one of those folding clothes hangers and use it all the time. When the coin dryer costs almost $2.00 a pop you better believe I'm air drying my clothes!!

Greebo too funny
I live in the woods so I'm able to hang clothes all day if I want. I would so miss the smell of the clothes after drying on the line If I wasn't able to hang my clothes and I do not have a basement but when it rains and I do not want to use the dryer I use the 2 shower rods in both bathrooms.DH's chemo has ended and his Radiation treatments end Mon May 14 yeah...!!
