Eating unusual things
I was reading an article earlier about how seal meat is going to be on the menu at the Canadian Parliament restaurant. The basic reasoning is that its a huge cultural thing for many Canadians and Natives living in the far north.
So it got me to wondering about what things other people or cultures might eat that people not of that culture would find strange or unusual.
I've never tasted seal meat....or anything really unusual for that matter. I've also seen pickled pork tongues for sale in the grocery store, but don't think I would ever try them. Probably the strangest I've eaten was a frogs leg that I tasted from a restaurant when I was younger and braver. Tasted like chicken
Anyone else have an unusual thing they've ever tried, or is common where you are?

I have eaten frogs legs and snails.
I eat meat so I guess there are many people who would find that odd.
Have also eaten things I ordered at a restaurant not knowing what was in it. So who knows.

Up here (Alaska) we also have a lot of Native foods...seal, whale, moose. Also, muktuk (sp?) which is frozen whale skin and blubber...sometimes they add blueberries. I think I'll pass.

Gator tail...put in front of me but couldn't get past the smell. Not very adventure minded I guess.
The one thing I did eat was calimari. For most people that probably isn't a big deal. That night I liked it but had an opportunity couple years ago to eat again and just couldn't do it.
I'll stick with chickenBank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.

When DH and I went to asia, we ate all kinds of great food and didn't ask any questions.
I've actually craved friend crickets on a stick since we came back. They are hard to find around here for some reason?

raw oysters, calimari, shark, alligator, frog legs, rabbit, deer, moose, elk. Believe it or not, I am a VERY picky eater. So the fact that I even tried ANY of the above still amazes me.

~I grew up in the country with a dad who hunted and fished. Fish, clam, crabs and venison were the most common things put on the table but I've also had wild goose & duck & rabbit, squirrel and muskrat. Muskrats are giant rodents, kind of like beavers.
A delicacy around here is Shad Roe. It's cooked egg sacks from Shad fish. Yuch.~~Constance

Hmmm... I lived in Asia for 4 years....so I'm sure I ate some "weird" things. I never asked though- if it tasted good, I ate it! I miss dried cuttlefish so much- Yum!
DH loves to try new things. He's had alligator, snake, ostrich, emu, haggis (he ate this in Scotland), eel, black and white pudding (British blood sausage type of deal).Wife to Air Force DH for 7 years.
