Default Dh think my car is totalled! Ugh

My son hit a deer with my car last night. I'm so glad he is ok. The car not so much. It is an 2001 taurus with a tad under 135,00 miles. I so love my paid for car. It was a nice car and in terrific shape. Dh thinks because of the age and the miles the ins co may consider it totaled. Ugh I have a 500 deductible.

Dh thinks it will be considered totaled because of the age and value. I have no clue! Ds drove it that last little bit home and it stinks like antifreeze! The hood is just crazy and won't open. The grill is smashed.

If it is totaled we will have them deduct the salvage free, buy a scrap yard hood, grill (maybe radiator) and pay cash on the side to have it fixed. We have a local body shop that did cash work on the side for us for a greatly reduced price(like half) when my sibling hit my car.

It was so odd! When I added DS to the ins a few weeks back the ins agent was saying I might want to remove collision and possibly comprehensive due to the age of the car and the $ to insure a teen driver. I told her I'd do some math and get back to her. Well I hadn't yet!

This car was supposed to go to ds later when we had the $ for a newer car for me. Not ready yet since we don't do debt!!

It's all assumption until the insurance adjuster takes a look at it.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

True true true but it is a very good possibility with an older car~ it looks awful.. Even fixable and not totaled we are still out the 500 deductible

Poor kiddo just got his license. He deer hunted all weekend and didn't even SEE A DEER IN THE WOODS but hits on on the way home!

I'm so grateful he is ok though!!!!!!

So sorry to hear you are going thru this. Glad your son is fine. Just hang in there until the adjuster can see the car.

Glad to hear your son is okay, sorry to hear about your car! Deer just don't show any mercy at all when you hit them or they run into you!

You have low mileage on your car, so you might be surprised on whether they total it out or not.

Back from the body shop. $2600. Now waiting for my ins agent to call me back so I can report it.

The body shop did give me a number for a used hood installed if by chance it is considered totaled. I told him it didn't matter if it was a perfect color match~ $500

Either way we are paying $500. $500 for a used hood and grill if considered totaled.

$500 deductible if it is not totaled.

Don't be too quick to make this assumption. My wife rear ended someone and we had VERY similar damage to her car. Hers is a 2003 Impala with 145,000 miles. They fixed it!

Well if they total it and you can fix the car - do you know the value of the vehicle? http://www.kbb.com - you may end up ahead on this.

Well I hope they do because either way it cost me $500 (see above post) I'd rather have the ins co fix it and me pay 500 and have it look real pretty than $500 for a used ok hood, and ok grill.

That was our plan from the beginning (see 1st post). We have done this once before.

I know the approx value but who knows what the adjuster may say.
