Unemployment help?

Hi i start receiving my benefits in MAY 2009
i have had 3 extensions..i have like 2.5 weeks left in the third extension

i read and heard that a 4th extension was passed

but what im confused abou,t is each time an extension is granted my unemployment office knows NOTHING??

how is this possible?..the last two times...they said you will get a letter in the mail when the last payment goes out, letting you know if you have an extension and once the last payment goes out i have called and i had the extension money in place...how can i know for sure..because it is SOOO stressful!

va seems to know nothing on these extensions..i called last time to ask about the third one and i was told they hadnt even heard about the third one...i just dont get it.

i ve heard about the 59-72 weeks but VA is like "dunno"...

sahm2boys - I don't know how it works in VA but in AZ, they (the Unemployment Office) DOES notify you via a letter . . .eventually. It took me three months to get my extension.

Currently, AZ is up for another extension as it is a "very hard hit state". Compared to other states, I guess.

They are sending out letters notifying us of what we need to do to get it.

If you're getting through on the phone, I'd keep calling. There is NO WAY to reach ANYONE via phone here in AZ. Average wait time is well over four hours . . .

I think you need to double check what are the requirements for the most recent extension. I know that there were requirements for some of them "harder hit state" and such. I have only had small glitch when I hit the year mark on my unemployment when I actually had to TALK to NJ. And yes, the phone waits can be crazy.

i havent been on a year yet, i started collecting in may.

but i am on my 3 rd extension...which i think puts me at 33 weeks...but its like the office knows nothing when you call them...they dont know about the 59 or 72 weeks of if im getting the 4th extension

i talked to someone else yesterday who says they are waiting on the applications? there is also a press release on the website about additional weeks for tier 2 and tier 3..but when i ask question its like they walk around the answers

Yeah, I am fortunate. I have a penny anny part-time job and some subbing in a school so I am only on Tier One even though I passed my first year date. What is scary is that the way I read the statistics, I am not even counted as unemployed because of my part-time job. And if you have run out of benefits you don't count either. And it is still 1 in 10 workers who are completely unemployed and get benefits.

now im being told the extensions wont start until jan..so that just messed up my Christmas

I'm on my second round. The in between 1 and 2 bout done us in then. It took 3 weeks. I'm not sure but I think my second tier is about over. I had to sign in today and the lady was telling some man that he needed to wait on a letter for the extension and it could take 6 to 8 weeks. So it must be getting longer and longer. This is in Florida. I wouldn't look for it to go thru before Christmas. I figure this is about when my second is over. If not before. Is second tier 20 weeks or 7? Can't remember.

How many weeks total, depends on when you first started drawing. It also depends on if your state has, the high unemployment percentage numbers, if you only get the 13 weeks, or an additional 7 weeks added to the 13 for each extension. NY is heading into the 4th extension started Nov 15, I believe the date is. This extension is for 14 weeks, and an additional 6 weeks added to this , if your state has the high UE numbers.

I just started on the last extension they passed. I got a letter about a week after the bill was passed saying that I qualified and that I could put my claim in over the internet bi weekly. The last one I had to do by hand and go to 2 diferent places on two different days each week and then mail it. Took two weeks to get the money. This time I do it on Sunday and it's on my eppicard Wednesday. So it didn't take as long as I figured it would.

they have a press release about tier 2 and 3 and 4
and it ranges from 6-14 weeks..i think im on the 6 weeks stuff

va doesnt know whats going on
every time i call its a different story..one thing i heard was that if my benefits run out before dec 31st (which they will) then i wont get the jan benefits..but then she also said i might be eligible..they know nothing! va sucks..sorry but they cant get anything straight i even read where they (va) declined federal help at first..and now at christmas when people need it the most...its gone

i guess my frustration lies in not knowing..no control...my last extensions i didnt know until the day after my account was empty then poof the extension placed money in my account...but its last minute..and im a planner, know what i mean? i cant plan ahead like im used to

i have been applying for jobs since APRIL..1 interview..didnt go anywhere..i am now applying at gas stations and retail and grocery stores...not that its beneath me...just havent had to work there in a LONG time..i hate working weekends and nights..but i am looking for a 3rd shift position which i HOPE makes me more appealing..plus i need it because i cant afford day care on 8 an hr....

im really whinny today please forgive me!..finances have been eating at my stomach all day!

UPDATE:

hi just an update on the status
my last check came on this past wed. on friday i got a letter announcing no more benefits. On sat i got my application for extended benefits..lol and the press release says the deposits will start on the 18th..which only makes a lapse of 2 days...

i just dont know how many weeks ill get until i get a letter stating my application was received.

im glad it worked out again but i wish they wouldn't put you through so much up and down stress...i even called on wed before i got that first letter notifying me of no more benefits to check the status of the extension..they knew nothing and then two days later the application is available and the press release is out...why do they act so ignorant about this information?
