our thanksgiving agenda.....
so i am hosting thanksgiving this year...we are going to our cabin in the woods so we will be far away from civilation...yea....
the guests include: my brother/wife & their 3 kids, my mom and my son....(not a big crowd) and of course DH & I....(have a sis but her family can't make it down)....
everyone is arriving Wed afternoon and mom is bringing homemade lasagna (a huge hit)...salad, garlic bread....i have rented movies from the library so we will spend the evening watching a movie in front of a roaring fire and sipping on hot cider/chocolate...and playing a board game or two... if the weather permits we are having a bonfire outside where we will be making banana boats:
** take a banana and slit down the long way, leaving on the skin, fill with mini marshmallows & choco chips, wrap the banana in tin foil and put the whole thing into the coals... check periodically and then remove and dump into bowl and enjoy....**
thursday will begin with cinn rolls and fruit and then the prep of the 'meal'...we are keeping it simple this year:
** mom is bringing the turkey & a ham, stuffing, gravy & cranberries
-- ds is making a wonderful mac/cheese dish
-- i have the g.beans, corn, steamed baby carrots, pineapple, peaches, mandarin oranges, and mashed pot, & muffins
-- sis-in-law will do desserts
then we will watch the parade while stringing popcorn garlands for the birds....we will also roll pincones in p.butter & seeds .... after which we will wander out into the woods and hang it all from trees....then we are taking a hike.....
back inside we will continue to enjoy the roaring fire and we will play some games....
** mad libs ...i got a book and copied a bunch for each person
-- 'look at me' (everyone studies a person and then they leave the room, when they return you have to guess what they did different)
-- 'tell a story' (everyone sits in a circle and the story starts with 'once upon a time' everyone adds to the story)
then i think we will probably eat again....
back outside to another bonfire... tonight we are doing 'snakes on a stick':
**take refrigerator bisquits and roll into long thin ropes, spray your stick with non-stick spray, twist the dough rope and wrap it into a long snake shape on the stick pinching the ends so it does not fall off, cook in the open fire twisting the stick until the 'snake' is golden brown, remove.... eat plain or dip in pizza sauce, spag sauce or cheese sauce...or for something sweet dip in butter and roll in cinn & sugar....
friday: sis in law is doing all the cooking today...weehee.... (that was the deal... mom does wed & sis does friday)....i have no idea what we are having.... we will spend the day making ornaments and other fun things from 'flour clay'....
** mix together 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 1 cup water in bowl until it forms a ball, knead on floured surface several times and now it is ready to make anything your heart desires...(ornaments, magnets, jewelry...)...then bake your creations on a cookie sheet for approx 1- 1/2 hrs at 200 degrees.... remove, cool, paint, let dry and then spray with an arylic varnish....
then we are taking another hike.....
another movie may be in store after this so the adults can relax....
then its 'gingerbread house making time'.... everyone gets a box of graham crackers, a can of icing and access to all the misc 'decor' items...each kid picks 2 names of 2 adults from a hat and that is their 'team'....each team gets to create a 'house' from the supplies avbl and then when finished we will take a pic of each one and e-mail to the family members who couldn't attend to 'judge' the winner (they won't know who's is who's).... i haven't decided yet what the winner gets.... then it will be time for another bon-fire (we love our bon-fires).... tonight's menu will be the traditional 'smores'....
sat morning: scrambled eggs for everyone....fruit....
another hike.....
then clean up and the family is all heading home....
and i am going home to take a nap.....
