Practicing my buttercream roses for my new job...
I have been stressed and worried all week that this won't be the job for me because they might not think I am good. So I decided to do some practicing tonight. I ushally work with fondant but grocery stores do not do that, they stricktly use buttercream...
Anyway-here are some pics of my practicing. I think it turned out good
Better than I thought...
Honest opinions please!!! I tell my DH and family all the time if you don't like it tell me because it only helps me to make it better!!!!! So please be honest!!
Thanks!!!

I think they look absolutely incredible! I have no constructive criticism whatsoever because there is absolutely nothing to criticize that I can see!

Ashley, please google search 'cake wrecks'.
Please look at the hideousness lurking on that blog and compare them to your cake.
Your cake is FABULOUS! I love it.McD

Thanks so much!! I love looking @ cake wrecks!! LOL! I had one before: Here was mine...the cat knocked it over in the middle of the night.

Below is the little monster that did it. There was proof on his paws!!!

Needless to say, when I leave a cake out over night now, I have to put stuff ALL around it because my cats apparently can jump higher than I thought.
There was icing all over the carpets and floors. I did not deliver a cake that day
It was a bad day, but funny now!

Agree...roses look great! Do you have pix of the fondant cakes you have done? Those look to be so hard to do. Don't worry, you're going to do great.

Nice workmanship....I like your roses
Are you practicing on a real cake in the pictures ?
This is me being frugal, but what if you practice on a empty cake pan ? Then you can scrape the frosting back up, and then do it all over again. Take pics of ones you like.--------My signature--------

~Your rose looks very nice!
What leaf tip did you use? I'm not sure if it's the quality of the photo or what but the leaves look really bunchy to me. I prefer the look of flat, broad leaves with roses because it looks more realistic.
Also(you didn't know I'd be this critical, huh?), are you using a standard bag and tip to write lettering? It's a bit too wide. You should probably be making your own waxed paper cones for lettering. These work so much better for a consistent, thin size of lettering.
It does take a lot of practice but I'm sure you can do it!~~Constance

That fact that it matters to you will make you better and better. I wish my writing were that good in life w/ a pencil let alone icing. No one expects perfection when you first start a job anyway. Everything you have done looks great to me.
